A Slide Stabilization Operation will close a major portion of State Road 250 in Switzerland County for up to Six Weeks.
According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, their stabilization contractor plans to mobilize crews and equipment at a State Road 250 slide site near Patriot as soon as next Monday (SEPTEMBER 18).
Operations to stabilize the embankment will close the east-west highway at mile marker 62.8 for up to six weeks.
A signed detour is being put in place to route motorists around the State Road 250 closure and will be up by Monday, at 10AM.
The detour will consist of having to head east on State Road 156 in Patriot, onto State Road 56 in Aberdeen and then back onto State Road 250 in East Enterprise.
Geostabilization International will stay the 615-foot-wide embankment slide with soil nails.
20-foot-long steel shafts will be drilled into the landslide at its edges.
30-foot-long shafts will be used in the center section.
Once soil nails have been installed, wire mesh is affixed—and shotcrete is used to overcoat the area.
Often, these are performed to prevent landslides and this work section is about 650 to 1000 feet long.
