Sherron Wilkerson Heads Over to Clifty Drive as New Coach of Madison Cubs

May 9, 2019

Less than a month after resigning from Shawe Memorial as coach of the Hilltoppers, State Champion, IU Player, Jeffersonville Coach and International Basketballer Sherron Wilkerson, as some had predicted, has taken the recently vacated position of head coach at Madison Consolidated.

Madison Athletic Director Joe Bronkella announced his hiring as the new Varsity boys basketball coach following approval at the monthly board of trustees meeting. “We are very excited to welcome Coach Wilkerson to the Madison family,” shares Bronkella. “He not only brings twenty years of coaching experience and a wealth of basketball knowledge, but also brings extensive personal experience as a premier player at the high school, college, and professional/international levels. Wilkerson brings a very unique skill set to our program. His experience and coaching philosophy are both elements which can take our program to the next level. Above that, his personal commitment to the academic and athletic success in the short term and focus on the importance of post-secondary opportunities for our student athletes was a huge piece of the interest in this hire.”

His accolades include a 1993 state championship at Jeffersonville, NCAA Tournament experience at Indiana University, Rio Grande University MVP, a Latvian Championship in 2002, the National Elite Basketball Bronze Medal, Assistant Coach at IU Southeast and much more.

Madison began the search in mid-April receiving applications from more than twenty candidates and their search committee quickly narrowed the field to five exceptional individuals.

After first-round interviews, they narrowed the field to the final three candidates who were interviewed in-depth by the committee.

“I first would like to take this time to extend my sincerest thank you to Dr. Studebaker, Principal Gasaway, Mr. Bronkella and the Madison community as a whole for affording me this opportunity,” shares Wilkerson. “I am very humbled by this opportunity and look forward to continuing to build upon the rich basketball tradition here at Madison Consolidated High School. Go Cubs!”

Coach Wilkerson currently lives in Louisville with his wife Carissa and daughter Brooke.

He has worked at Vehicle Service Group as an Account Executive for twelve years and has been involved in our community as a professional, mentor, and coach.

Madison’s previous coach, Mark McFarland resigned one month ago after two seasons coaching the Cubs.
