Scott County Sheriff Dan McClain announces the passing of former Scott County Sheriff Marietta Hardy.
She passed away at Hampton Oaks Nursing home in the morning hours of April 4th, 2016. She was 89.
Marietta was elected Sheriff and held the office from 1979-1982. Prior to being elected sheriff, Marietta had served as Matron under her husband, Former Sheriff Raymond Hardy. To date, Marietta is the only female to hold the office of Scott County Sheriff.
Sheriff McClain has lowered the flag to half-staff in honor of Marietta.
Sheriff McClain says that he speaks for the law enforcement community when he states “Today, the community mourns the loss of former Sheriff Marietta Hardy. Marietta served the citizens of Scott County honorably. Being a former Sheriff makes you a forever member of the Sheriff’s Office. So today, with heavy hearts, we mourn the loss of one of our own.”
