The City of Madison is pleased to announce that professional basketball player and former Madison Cub Danny Gibson will be the Grand Marshal of the 4th of July Madison Regatta Parade sponsored by German American Bank.

2019 Regatta Parade Grand Marshal Danny Gibson

Gibson is a 2002 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School, earning letters in basketball, football, and track. As a senior, he led the Cubs with 19 points and 6 assists per game in basketball and was the state leader in receiving yards in football.

After Madison, he attended Olney Central Community College and University of Southern Indiana before embarking on a 13-year professional career in Europe, playing in the countries of Germany, Greece, Poland, Bulgaria, Holland, France, and Turkey. He has achieved numerous awards in his time as a professional basketball player as an individual (All-League honors in 2010, 2015, 2016, and 2017) and on various teams (winner of Dutch Cup in 2010, Polish Cup in 2014, and the Bulgarian Supercup in 2017).

The 4th of July Madison Regatta Parade will take place on Main Street from Jefferson to Cragmont Street and begins at 7:00pm on Friday, July 5th.

The parade is one of many activities associated with the Madison Regatta and Roostertail Music Festival, which will take place on July 5th, 6th and 7th on the riverfront in Historic Madison Indiana. Wristbands for the Regatta & Roostertail Music Festival are available at www.madisonregatta.com.

The theme for the parade this year is ‘Go for Gold’ in honor of Madison hosting the Gold Cup race during the Madison Regatta.

The annual American Legion Post #9 Fireworks Spectacular will take place on Saturday, July 6th on Madison’s riverfront at dusk. As usual, entrance to the riverfront for the fireworks will be free, although entry to the Roostertail Music Festival at Bicentennial Park will require a wristband. Roostertail Music festival areas that will require a wristband include Vaughn Drive from West Street to Broadway and West Street south of First Street. Wristbands are $25 for music only, $25 for racing only, or $40 for both for the entire weekend. Donation boxes made by Madison High School’s “Cub Manufacturing” will be placed along Madison’s riverfront the night of the fireworks in order to help raise funds to keep the fireworks going in the future.

Parade and fireworks sponsorship opportunities are still available. For information, contact Andrew Forrester at 812-265-8300 or email community@madison-in.gov.
