Police Chase Started on Clifty Drive in Madison, IN, and Ended in Seymour, IN
***PRESS RELEASE*** April 15, 2016 MULTI AGENCY PURSUIT LANDS MAN IN JAIL On Thursday April 14, 2016, Patrolman Brandon Decker with the Madison Police Department observed a male subject he recognized as Patrick M. Marthin AGE 29 operating a motorcycle on Clifty Drive. Patrolman Decker learned through dispatch that Patrick did not have a valid license and also learned the motorcycle registration was not valid. Based on the violations, Patrolman Decker attempted to stop the motorcycle at the intersection of Harry Nichols and Clifty Drive. Once the traffic light turned green, Patrick accelerated the motorcycle ignoring commands to stop. Patrolman Decker began pursuit of the vehicle. The motorcycle continued west on Clifty Drive and then turned west onto Highway 256. At this time Hanover Police and Jefferson County Sheriff Department assisted with the pursuit. The motorcycle continued west on Highway 256 at speeds of approximately 80 mph. The motorcycle then entered Scott County on Highway 256. At this time Scott County assisted with the pursuit. The motorcycle then entered Austin Indiana and entered the north bound lane of I65. Austin Police then joined in the pursuit. Based on the other agencies pursuing the motorcycle, the Madison Police, Hanover Police, and Jefferson County Sheriff Department terminated the pursuit. The other agencies continued as the vehicle continued north on I65. The motorcycle then entered Jackson County. Jackson County Sheriff Department and Indiana State Police continued to pursue the vehicle. Patrolman Brandon Decker was contacted by the Indiana State Police who stated that they had the vehicle stopped in Seymour Indiana and the subject, identified as Patrick detained. Patrolman Decker responded to Seymour and placed Patrick under arrest. During an interview with Patrick he stated that he fled police because he was afraid he would be shot. Patrick also stated that his motorcycle had mechanical issues and could not exceed 80 MPH. Patrick stopped the motorcycle because he ran out of gas. Patrick was then transported to the Jefferson County Jail. Once at the jail, Patrick was found to be in possession of Hydrocodone, a controlled substance. Patrick did not have a prescription for the pills. ARRESTED Patrick M.
