Anthony Edwards
Anthony “Tony” Edwards, 66, of Florence, Indiana, died Sunday, May 24, 2020, at the Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville.
He was born May 8, 1954, in Owen County, Kentucky, to Arthur “Glenn” and Mary Elizabeth Clarke Edwards. He was raised in Kentucky before moving to Switzerland County where he attended Switzerland County High School. He was inducted into the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Private. He enjoyed farming and raising tobacco and was a self-employed concrete worker in his early years. He was also a former iron worker, journeyman and foreman for Local 44 in Cincinnati for several years and was a member of the Vevay American Legion Post No. 185 and the Vevay VFW Post No. 5396. He enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Diana Lynn Baatz Edwards, of Florence; his daughters, Tonya Lynn Edwards and Cathy Jo Edwards, both of Carrollton, Kentucky, Pamela Sue Tatman of Kent, Indiana, Mary Elizabeth Bruns of Bennington, Indiana and Tiffany Renee Majors of Vevay, Indiana; his brothers, Harold Edwards and Marvin Edwards, both of Fairview, Indiana, and Herbert Edwards of Dillsboro, Indiana; and
11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Ruby Elston McMackin; his infant sister, Faye Edwards; and his brothers, Ronald C. “Ron” and Bobby Edwards.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home with COVID-19 crowd restrictions observed. Interment and full military rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post No. 185 and the Vevay VFW Post No. 5396 in the Vevay Cemetery in Vevay.

Ryan Hostetler
Ryan Hostetler, 30, of North Vernon, Indiana near Dupont, Indiana, died Saturday, May 23, 2020, at his home. He was born Sept. 10, 1989, in Osage Beach, Missouri, to Earl and Alta Kropf Hostetler. He moved to Indiana in 1990 with his family and had attended school at Anderson and E.O. Muncie Elementaries and Jennings County. He loved to be called “Cowboy Ryan” by his family and friends and would spend hours with a rope in his hand, a cowboy hat on his head and roping a dummy or anyone else who happened to walk by. He loved Jesus, his family, his dog, Rusty, his many friends, and his country cowboy way of life and enjoyed going out to eat, connecting with friends over social media, a cold bottle of root beer, or a Madison Mayhem (heartache medication).
Survivors include his mother, Alta Kropf Hostetler of rural Dupont; his brothers, Rick Hostetler of rural Dupont, Randy Hostetler of Commiskey, Indiana, Chris Hostetler of Dupont, Indiana and Craig Hostetler of Madison, Indiana; his sisters, Starla Hostetler Zook of Alliance, Ohio and Sharlyn Hostetler Hershberger of Abbeville, South Carolina; and 21 nieces and nephews, numerous aunts and uncles, cousins and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father; his paternal grandparents, William H. Hostetler and Lydia C. Troyer Hostetler; his maternal grandparents, Daniel Kropf and Edna Kropf; and a niece, Sierra Zook.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 29, at the Madison Consolidated High School Gymnasium in Madison. Interment will follow in the Dupont Cemetery in Dupont. Friends and family will begin seating at noon on Friday at the gymnasium. Friends may visit from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the gymnasium. Jennie Brooks
Jennie Dean Wentworth Brooks, 90, of Bennington, Indiana near Allensville, Indiana, died Wednesday, March 25, 2020, at her home.
She was born Feb. 19, 1930, on Vernon Ridge in Switzerland County, Indiana, to Joseph Allen and Lydia Ann Callis Wentworth. She was raised there and attended the Mt. Zion Church and Ebenezer United Methodist Church. She married in 1946, had four children and with her husband attended Home Church in Brooksburg and settled on their farm in 1952 on Works Road in Ohio County. She enjoyed helping with the farming, gardening, mowing the lawn, baking, sewing, embroidery work, reading, putting puzzles together, watching the hummingbirds and studying her Bible. She enjoyed her family, loved hosting annual Fourth of July parties and in her later years enjoyed going to the Olive Branch Baptist Church near Bear Branch.
Survivors include her daughters, Rosalin “Rosy” Childress of Madison, Indiana and Wilma Tschaenn of Osgood, Indiana; her sons, Emerson Brooks of North Vernon, Indiana and Roger Brooks of Bennington, Indiana; her brother, Clarence Wentworth, of New Albany, Indiana; and 11 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 46 years, Ralph E. Brooks, on Sept. 8, 1992; her brothers, the Rev. Melvin Wentworth, J. Eugene Wentworth and Charles Wentworth; her sisters, Helena “Babe” McKay, Rosemary Griswold, Nelgene Bolton and Hilda Meriweather, a granddaughter and a great-grandson.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 30, 2020, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery in Vevay, Indiana. Jack Lemm
John C. “Jack” Lemm, 92, of Madison, Indiana, died Monday, May 25, 2020, at his home.
He was born June 24, 1927, in Dearborn County, Indiana, to Peter Joseph and Anna Mary Fangman Lemm. He grew up in Lawrenceburg, Indiana and graduated from Lawrenceburg High School in 1945. He was inducted into the U.S. Navy on June 2, 1945, in Dearborn County, rose to the rate of Machinist’s Mate Third Class during World War II and was honorably discharged on April 20, 1948, from U.S. Naval Station in San Diego California, receiving the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal.
After leaving the Navy, he first worked for a service station in Lawrenceburg and then went to work for the U.S. Post Office in Lawrenceburg. He was married in 1950, had four children and the family moved to Madison in 1955 where he was employed at the Indiana Kentucky Electric Corporation Clifty Creek Power Plant for 35 years, retiring as maintenance superintendent. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic church, the Knights of Columbus Lodge, the Madison VFW Post No. 1969, and the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 American Legion. He was a past president, pit chairman, and race chairman of the Madison Regatta. He and his wife loved dancing and were members of the Vagabonds and the Clifty Swingers. He enjoyed traveling, was an avid golfer, and loved his family.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 70 years, Celeste Hill Lemm, of Madison; two sons, Dennis Lemm of Madison and Thomas Lemm of Fountain Valley, California; two daughters, Pamela Moon of Madison and Teresa Brown of Marana, Arizona; and five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, three step grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Gervace C. Lemm, Paul Richard Lemm, Robert Joseph Lemm and Gerald Anthony “Jerry” Lemm; and his sisters, Esther Frances Logan and Rita Young.
Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, May 29, at the St. Patrick Catholic Chapel in Madison. Interment will follow in the St. Patrick Cemetery in Madison. Friends may visit from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Full military honors will be conducted on Friday at the graveside by Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion.

Jerry Mefford
Jerry Lee Mefford, 70, of Worthville, Kentucky, died Tuesday, May 26, 2020, at his home.
He was born on Nov. 21, 1949, in Ghent, Kentucky, to Webb Suter Mefford and Laura Christine Polley Mefford.
He was a member of Ghent Baptist Church, an avid golfer, enjoyed playing poker, fishing and frog gigging. After retiring from Kentucky Utilities in 2017, he spent time caring for the grounds at Fairway Golf Course in Wheatley, Kentucky.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne “Evie” D. Mefford, of Worthville; two daughters, Karla A. Beach and Kandi L. Mefford, both of Carrollton, Kentucky; a son, Cam L. Mefford of Carrollton; two stepsons, Jimmy Wayne Ball of Wheatley and Jeromy Lee Ball of Louisville; two sisters, Nellie O’Neal and Barbara Garriott, both of Carrollton; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Carolyn Sue Meffford; a sister, Bessie Louise Mefford; and two brothers, J.W. Mefford and Webb Mefford Jr.

Pat Monjar
Patrick Joseph “Pat” Monjar 43 of Patriot, Indiana, died Saturday, May 23, 2020, at his home.
He was born April 8, 1977, in Cincinnati, to Lawrence Joseph “Larry” and Ann Marie Brady Monjar. He was a 1995 graduate of the Switzerland County High School, was employed as a bellman and a valet attendant for Belterra Casino & Resort in Florence, Indiana for 15 years and had been employed for Dorman Products in Warsaw, Kentucky, for three years. He enjoyed drawing, music, crafts with his girls and golf. He loved spending time with his family and friends and was a loving and devoted father, son, brother and uncle.
Survivors include his parents, of Patriot; his daughters, Rylee Hope Monjar and Rowan Marie Monjar; his brother, Michael L. Turner of Patriot; his sister, Emily M. Roberts of Patriot; his dear friend, Trina Poore, of Sparta, Kentucky; and his nieces and nephews, great-niece and great-nephew and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harley J. Monjar and Georgia M. King Monjar-Sexton and his maternal-grandparents, Thomas J. and Katherine A. Hess Brady.

Jeffrey Riley
Jeffrey L. Riley, 54, of Hanover, Indiana, died Monday, May 25, 2020, at his home in Hanover.
He was born July 24, 1965 in Madison, Indiana, to Elbert and Joyce Breeden Riley. He was raised in Scottsburg, Indiana, and a 1984 graduate of Lighthouse Tabernacle Christian School in Crothersville, Indiana. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on April 10, 1984 in Scottsburg, Indiana, rose to the rate of Private First Class and served in Company D, 9th Battalion and Company B, 151st Infantry. He was honorably discharged on May 9, 1992, as a Specialist 4 and received the Army Service Ribbon. He married in 1986 and had a son. He had lived in Hanover from the age of 21 until residing in Seymour from 2001 to 2008. He worked at the U.S. Shoe Corporation in both Madison and Crothersville plants for a total of eight years. He also worked at the Walmart Distribution Center in Seymour for 12 years before becoming disabled. He was a member of the Landmark Apostolic Bible Church and the American Legion Riders. He enjoyed his church, motorcycle and Four-wheeler riding, NASCAR, dirt track racing and fishing.
Survivors include his mother of Seymour; his son, David Riley of Hanover; his brothers, Ellis Riley of Scottsburg and Henry “Hank” Riley of Seymour; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father and his wife of 28 years, Rebecca “Beckey” Abbott Riley, on Aug. 13, 2015.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 30, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre-Hanover Chapel in Hanover. Interment will follow in the Grandview Memorial Gardens near Madison. Friends may visit from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
A final salute will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with full military honors to follow at the Grandview Memorial Gardens by the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion.

Dan Shake
Thomas “Dan” Daniel Shake, 67, died Tuesday, May 12, 2020, at his home in Puyallup, Washington. He was born on May 21, 1952, to James D. Shake and Suzanne Pritchard Thomas Shake, in Detroit, but was raised in Madison, Indiana. He graduated from Madison Consolidated High School in 1970 and attended Colgate University in New York and Indiana University-Bloomington where his love of Hoosiers basketball was cemented. He later lived in Mooresville, Indiana, for many years and worked in the metro Indianapolis region before moving to the Seattle area in 2001. He spent his work career in various positions in the insurance industry including a total of 34 years with American States, Safeco and Liberty Mutual.
He remained in contact with countless friends and acquaintances from Madison after moving to the west coast and shared his love of flowers and Mt. Rainier via his talent for photography.
Survivors include two sons, Joshua D. and Ethan W. Shake; a brother, Joe Shake; a sister Margaret Adwell; step-brothers Tom and Miles Pritchard, and his partner Carol Franko.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Susan Lee Pray Shake, on July 18, 2012.
Cremation was chosen with arrangements by Curnow Funeral Home in Sumner, Washington.
Arrangements for celebration of life ceremonies in Puyallup and Madison will be made at a later date.
Goldie Smith
Goldie B. Suter Smith, 86, of Sanders, Kentucky, died on Tuesday, May 26, 2020, at Baptist Health hospital in La Grange, Kentucky.
She was born Sept. 4, 1933, in New Castle, Kentucky, to Robert Edward Suter and Stella Payton Suter. She had worked on her family farm all her life and loved working in the fields. She especially enjoyed working on tobacco crops. She was a member of the White’s Run Baptist Church in Sanders and served on the Kitchen Committee over the years.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia McEndre of Sanders; two sons, Jeff Smith of Carrollton, Kentucky and Rick Smith of Sanders; and nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; Albion Smith, on June 1, 2017; a sister; Barbara Martin, and a half-brother.
Funeral services will be private at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 29, and broadcast on Facebook LIVE on the funeral home Facebook page. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton. Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, funeral home capacity will be limited to 33% so be prepared for a possible line as occupancy is monitored. Elisha Lowry
Elisha Ellsworth “E.E.” Lowry, 77, of Madison, Indiana, died Sunday, May 24, 2020, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, after a brief illness,
He was born on Dec, 30, 1942, in Scottsburg, Indiana, to Lowell L. Lowry Sr. and Hazel M. Sandlin Lowry. He attended Alpha Baptist Church near Deputy, Indiana. After graduating from Scottsburg High School in 1961 he served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1964-1970. A lifelong resident of southern Indiana, he lived in Madison for 44 years, was employed by the Indiana Kentucky Electric Company there for many years and was active in his community. He was an Indiana Freemason since 1973, held membership with the Schmidlap Lodge No. 408 in Kent, Indiana, was a 30-year member of The American Legion, a 29-year member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Scott County Lodge 2324, a member of Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis and the NRA. He enjoyed attending and watching NASCAR, playing golf, spending time with friends and family, collecting guns, coins and cars and attending car shows talking about cars and working on cars.
Survivors include his daughter, Phoebe Elisa Lowry James of Madison; a brother, Lowell L. Lowry of Scottsburg; a sister, Patsy Walker of Indianapolis; and two granddaughters and several nieces and nephews and cousins.
No funeral services will be held. A celebration of life and a Big E’s Garage benefit will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 15, 2020, at Red Bicycle Hall in Madison.

Terry Ginn
Terrell “Terry” D. Ginn, 60, of Milton, Kentucky, died Wednesday, May 27, 2020, at Norton Hospital in Louisville.
He was born July 26, 1959, in Madison, Indiana, to Gayle Dallas and Shirley Hudson Ginn. He graduated with an agriculture degree from the University of Kentucky, where he played linebacker for the football team and was a governor’s scholar. He was a chemical rep for many years working for Southern States, BASF and Charah. He owned and operated Win Home Inspections and was licensed in three states. He was of the Baptist faith and loved the outdoors, boating, scuba diving, snorkeling, skiing, and was an avid University of Kentucky basketball and football fan.
Survivors include his parents of Milton; his wife, Ceneita McQueary Ginn of Milton; his children, McKenna Ginn of Bedford and Alex Ginn of Washington, D.C.; his sister, Debbie Beeles of Milton; his brothers, Dwight Ginn and Dwayne Ginn, both of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; his step-daughter, Brittany Smith of Dover, Tennessee; and two step-grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Allen and Bernice Hudson and his paternal grandparents, Carly and Faynola Ginn.

Steve Smith Jr.
Morgan U. “Steve” Smith Jr., 71, of Deputy, Indiana, died unexpectedly on Thursday, May 28, 2020, at his home in Deputy.
He was born Aug. 27, 1948 in Jefferson County, Indiana, to Morgan Uly Sr. and Myrtle Louise Copeland Smith. He lived all of his life in Jefferson County and was a 1966 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School. He worked early in life for Rotary Lift in Madison, and then for his father-in-law at Fox Septic Service as a operator. He then owned and operated Steve’s Backhoe Service until he became disabled. He had attended the Milton Wesleyan Church and enjoyed fishing and bowling.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Inez Marie Fox Smith, of Deputy; his son, Chad Smith of Deputy; his sisters, Penny Leach of Canaan, Indiana, Aggie Giesler of Washington, Indiana and Wanda Ferrell of Benham, Indiana; his brothers, Ronald Smith of Canaan, Samuel Earl Smith of Versailles, Indiana, Donald Smith of Madison and Mike Smith of Canaan; and a grandson, a great grandson, a step-grandson and a step-grandaughter, his aunts and uncles and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Stephanie Lee Smith Watterson; his sister, Brenda Smith; and two nephews.
