Ronald Higham

Ronald Lee Higham, 72, of Madison, Indiana, died Friday, June 12, 2020, at his home in Madison.

He was born July 19, 1947, in Milan, Indiana, to Ralph L. Higham and Laura Mae Bachmann Higham Melson. He graduated from Aurora High School and was a member of the Sparta Baptist Church. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Aug. 2, 1967, in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, during the Vietnam War. He served in HQ 5/42 Artillery Unit and was honorably discharged on April 4, 1969, at Oakland, California, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.

He married Sharon Sue Sebree in 1969 and they had a daughter and three sons. He worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator for Bennett Construction in Aurora. He also lived in South Carolina for several years and was married to Norma Higham and they had a son. He had lived in Madison the past 10 years and worked for Will’s Auto Care. He enjoyed fishing, working puzzles, camping and tinkering on cars.

Survivors include his sons, Richard Lee “Ricky” Higham of Hanover, Indiana, William “Billy” Carroll of Bright, Indiana, Andrew “Andy” Brown of Harrison, Indiana and Randy Higham of Aynor, South Carolina; his daughter, Michelle Lynn Geisler of Madison; a brother, Melvin Higham of Rising Sun, Indiana; and 12 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, an aunt and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Sharon Sue Sebree Higham, in 2005; his last wife, Norma Higham; and a brother, Leroy Higham.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 18, at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel in Madison. Interment will follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery there. Friends may visit from 10 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the Chapel. A final salute and military honors will be conducted by the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion.

Jean Johnson

Priscilla Jean Willey Johnson, 70, of Madison, Indiana, died unexpectedly on Thursday, June 11, 2020, at her home in Madison.

She was born Jan. 28, 1950, in Jefferson County, Indiana, to Noah and Evelyn Pauline Bloom Willey. She lived all of her life in Jefferson County, was of the Christian faith and graduated school there. She had worked for 20 years with Meyers Manufacturing as a seamstress and was currently employed with Royer Corporation as an administrative assistant for the past 28 years. She loved attending the Madison Regatta, the Block of the Month quilting club, and holding membership in the Vintage Hydroplane Club. She was devoted to her family, loved quilting, working in her flower gardens, playing with her cats and caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 37 years, David Wayne Johnson, of Madison; a son, Doug Scott of Madison, Indiana; her daughters, Starr Donna Burke of Madison and Brenda Jean Scott of Worthville, Kentucky; a brother, Thomas Willey of Dennison, Texas; a sister, Holly Dill of Richmond, Indiana; and eight grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Noah Russell Willey, Michael Allen Willey and Stephen Willey; and four sisters, Maxine E. Pelsor, Betty M. Skirvin, Roseann Robbins and Faye Bentley.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Interment will follow in the Springdale Cemetery in downtown Madison. Friends may visit from 10 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Elizabeth Little

Elizabeth B. “Liz” Chase Little, 72, of Florence, Indiana, died Thursday, June 11, 2020, at her home in Florence.

She was born Jan. 30, 1948, in Florence, to Clarence and Mary Ellen Reed Chase. She was raised in Florence and was a 1966 graduate of Vevay High School in Vevay, Indiana. She was employed by the US Shoe Factory in Vevay for several years and as a dealer for Belterra Casino & Resort in Florence for 13 years. She loved animals and supported the Swiss Family and Friends program where she fostered animals for two years. She enjoyed helping others and sponsored many children in the Angel Tree program. She loved spending time with her family, enjoyed doing yard work and attending family reunions and the family’s annual Easter egg hunt.

Survivors include her son, Keith Little of Florence; her brother, Clarence “Buster” Chase Jr. of Vevay; her grandchildren, Brittanie Little of Madison, Indiana and Brandon Little of Florence; and two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of nearly 21 years, William O. Little, in 1988; her sisters, Leo “Ike” Chase, Viola “Sis” Gregory, Cora Wilson, Geraldine Peters, Ruth Romans, Beulah Ann “Bootie” Thornton and Betty Raisor; her brothers, Donald Lee Chase and Paul Vernon Chase; and a niece.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery there. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.

Sue Ross

Elizabeth “Sue” Murphy Ross, 74, of Madison, Indiana, died Friday, June 12, 2020, at the Hickory Creek at Madison. She was born Nov. 13, 1945, in Menifee County, Kentucky, to John Henderson and Grace Myrtle Kash Murphy. She attended school in Frenchburg, Kentucky, and spent most of her adult life in Middletown, Ohio. She was an active member of the Freewill Baptist Church in Middletown, where she sang in the music ministry. She was a homemaker, enjoyed decorating, sewing, crafting and working in her garden and flowers.

Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Ross Patton of Madison; a son, John W. Ross of Madison; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Auxier of Madison and Emily Patton of Hanover, Indiana; a grandson, Hendrix Woods of Ohio; and two great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 56 years, John Day “J.D” Ross, in 2017; her nine sisters, Ella Lee Murphy Montgomery, Hazel Taulbee, Mabel Murphy Agee, Ruby May Murphy Henry, Sylvia Alice Murphy, Jean Barrett, Ilean Murphy Campbell, Emma Jane Murphy Linkous and Mary Barrett; and her brother, Logan Murphy.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Interment will follow in the Springdale Cemetery in downtown Madison. Friends may visit from 11 a.m. until time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Robert Whitham

Robert Stanley “Bob” Whitham, 92, of Madison, Indiana, died Saturday, June 13, 2020, at his home,

He was born May 6, 1928, in Ripley County, Indiana, to Clyde F. and Susie B. Leatherbury Whitham. He graduated from North Madison High School, attended Ivy Tech College and Butler County Business College. He was a World War II veteran and spent 21 months in 5612th Air Rescue Squadron in Caribbean Air Command. He was a member of American Legion Post 239 and Major Samuel Woodfill American Legion Post 9. He worked for 35 years in production scheduling at Fernald Plant in Cincinnati.

Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Ann Rose of Madison and one son, Douglas Wayne Whitham of Aurora, Indiana; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Jean Brooks Whitham, in 2013, and his brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Internment will follow at the Benham Cemetery in Benham, Indiana. Visitation is 1 p.m. until time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.

A final salute will be conducted at 2:30 p.m.on Tuesday by the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion at the funeral home with full military honors to follow at the graveside.
