Jeremy Cox

Jeremy Ryan Cox, 38, of Hanover, Indiana, died Sunday, July 26, 2020, at his residence.

He was born March 26, 1982, in Columbus, Indiana, to Michael L. Cox and Charlotte G. Bales Cox. He graduated from Scottsburg High School in 2000 and attended Vincennes University earning an associate’s degree in conservation law. He was a senior patrolman at the Madison Police Department in Madison, Indiana, where he worked for the last 13 years. He had previously worked in the gun department at Scott’s Ace Hardware in Scottsburg. He was baptized at the First Christian Church in Scottsburg and was currently a member of the Hanover Baptist Church and the Stacks of Power F.O.P. Lodge No. 128 in Madison. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and loved spending time with his family, especially his daughter.

Survivors include his parents; his daughter, Allison Lynn Cox of Madison; his fiancé, Ellen Goble and her son Isaac of Madison; a sister, Amber Lee of Lexington, South Carolina; and a niece and a nephew.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, at the First Christian Church in Scottsburg. Visitation is 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and after 9 a.m. on Wednesday at the church. Cremation has been chosen following services.

Visitation and funeral services will be open to the public as long as social distancing guidelines can be observed. Please follow  CDC recommendations and guidelines while attending services. Face masks will be required due to the governor’s executive order. Funeral services may also be viewed on the Collins Funeral Home Facebook Page at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

Marcus Culver

Marcus W. Culver, 47, of Madison, Indiana, died Saturday, July 25, 2020, at the River Terrace Health Campus in Madison.

He was born on Sept. 23, 1972, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Jim Culver and Terry Bell Ginther Eldredge. Over the years, he worked at The Madison Courier and in the kitchen at the Warf Restaurant. He loved cats, playing Uno, spending time at the river and with his family and was the greatest shopping partner ever.

Survivors include his daughter, Erin Culver, of Hanover; his fathers, Jim Culver of Sunman, Indiana, and Bill Eldredge of Madison; his sister, Tracy Youngblood, of Madison; and a niece and a nephew and several aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his mother and his grandmother, Ora Kroger.

Memorial services will be held at a later date and will be announced at that time.

Maxine Ely

June Maxine Brown Rine Ely, 95, of Dupont, Indiana, died Saturday, April 4, 2020, at the Thornton Terrace Health Campus in Hanover, Indiana.

She was born July 28, 1924, in Jennings County, Indiana, to Cornet and Ida Mae Starkey Brown. She was raised in Butlerville, Indiana, and in the Butlerville United Methodist Church. She graduated from Butlerville High School in 1942. She married Ralph Emerson Rine in 1944 and they had two sons. She later married Paul “Jack” Ely in 1962. She worked at the Muscatatuck State Hospital in Butlerville earlier in life and enjoyed taking care of her home and helping others. She was most recently a member of the Dupont United Methodist Church in Dupont.

Survivors include her son, Ronald Rine of Merriam Woods, Missouri; her grandchildren, Brad Davis and Melanie Rine; and two great grandchildren, a nephew and two great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her second husband, Paul “Jack” Ely, on April 9, 1993; her sister, Betty L. Wiggins, in 2005; and her son, Mickey Lee Rine, on April 16, 1960.

Graveside services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 31, at the Dupont Cemetery in Dupont.

Ryan Huffman

Ryan Leslie Huffman, 54, of Carrollton, Kentucky, died July 25, 2020, in Carrollton.

He was born May 12, 1966, in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, to Robert Lee Huffman and Pat Huffman. He attended Hot Springs High School there and later received his GED. He married Rebecca Jean Prosser on May 10, 1992. He was a Western fan earlier in life when it came to movies or clothing, then he was into low budget Sci-Fi films. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson until his doctor recommended against that so he traded his bike in for a John Deere tractor and took up farming. He later found a career with NUCOR Gallatin in Ghent, Kentucky, where he worked in the hot mill for the past 23 years while living in Carrollton.

Survivors include his mother of Madison, Indiana; his wife of 28 years, Rebecca Huffman, of Carrollton; a friend, Karen Peters, of Madison, who was like a sister to him; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his father and his brother, Robert Ragan “Bob” Huffman, in 2015.

A celebration of life will be at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Friends may visit from 4 p.m. until time of services Thursday at the funeral home. Cremation was chosen.

Mary Humphrey

Mary E. Humphrey, 79, of Madison, Indiana, died Thursday, July 23, 2020, at her residence in Madison.

She was born on Feb. 27, 1941, in Trimble County, Kentucky, to Raymond and Frances McDowell McDole. She moved to Madison in 1958 and married Cecil H. Humphrey Jr. on Feb. 16, 1968. She owned and operated an in-home day care for many years, enjoyed watching television and working in her flower and vegetable gardens.

Survivors include a son, Adam Davis Jr. of Lexington, Indiana; her daughters, Debra Lockridge, Kimberly DeBoard, Tammy Johnson and Rebecca Jones, all of Madison; two sisters, Doris Chatham, of Milton, Kentucky and Ellie Skirvin, of Madison; two brothers, Bobby McDole, of Campbellsburg, Kentucky and Carl McDole, of Madison; and 21 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Adam G. Davis Sr.; her husband, Cecil Humphrey who died in the Vietnam War on May 31, 1968; a son, Gary Humphrey II; three brothers, Kenneth McDole, William McDole and R.D. McDole; two sisters, Marie Hendricks and Stella Aldridge; and three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, at Lytle Welty Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, on Madison’s hilltop with interment in Moffett Cemetery in Milton, Kentucky. Friends and family may call from noon until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Roy Keith

Roy Armond “Red” Keith, 77, of Vevay, Indiana, died Saturday, July 25, 2020, at the Norton Hospital in Louisville.

He was born July 8, 1943, in Allensville, Indiana, to James Wilford and Avis O. Chase Keith. He was raised in Switzerland County, Indiana, and was a 1961 graduate of Vevay High School. He was employed for US Shoe Factory in Vevay for a few years. He was inducted into the US Army on Feb. 2, 1965, in Louisville. He received the Marksman (rifle), National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He returned from overseas and was transferred to the US Army Reserves on Jan. 20, 1967, at Fort Hamilton, New York. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist 4th Class on Feb. 1, 1971. He married to Barbara Jean Darbro on Aug. 26, 1978 in Vevay and they had a son. He went towork at Reliance Electric in Madison, Indiana, in 1967 and retired in 2005 after 38 years of service. He was a former member of the Vevay VFW Post No. 5396 and the Vevay American Legion Post No. 185. He enjoyed listening to country music, being outdoors, fishing, playing solitaire and visiting with his family.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 42 years; his son, Derrick Keith of Vevay; a sister, Sarah M. McCreary of Allensville, Indiana; a brother, Jonas Keith of Milan, Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Denver, Albert Wayne, Hubert Welsey, Kirby, Paul Dean, Clifford, Leon, Wilford “Junior” and Larry Keith; his sisters, Juanita Koons and Hazel Knaus; and his infant brother and infant sister.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 31, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of services Friday at the funeral home. Due to COVID-19 and CDC guidelines, masks and social distancing will be required of those attending visitation and services

Interment and full military rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post No. 185 and the Vevay VFW Post No. 5396 in the New Liberty Cemetery in East Enterprise, Indiana.

Brooklynn Phillips

Brooklynn Nicole Phillips, 24, of Hanover, Indiana, died on Friday, July 24, 2020, in an ambulance in New Washington, Indiana, from injuries she sustained in a car accident.

She was born July 13, 1996, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, during Hurricane Bertha, to Ronald N. and Kimberly Jo Anderson Phillips. She graduated from Southwestern High School in Hanover in 2015 where she was a cheerleader. She was currently employed with Frisch’s in Madison where she had been a waitress the past three and one-half years. She had formerly worked for Dairy Queen in Sellersburg, Indiana, Pride Market in Hanover, Kroger in Madison and Madison Precision in Madison. She loved music, dancing, swimming, four-wheeling, and her dog, Max.

Survivors include her father of Hanover; her brother, Bradley Phillips of Madison; her grandmothers, Merrilee Phillips O’Neil of Hanover, Sue Armand of Madison and Susan Sommer Anderson of Lexington, Indiana; and a niece, her aunts and uncles, her cousins and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her mother on Jan. 7, 2003; her grandfather, Charles F. “Charlie” Anderson, on Feb. 22, 2012; an uncle, her cousins and her great grandparents, Ferris and Ethel Whicker and Raymond and Margaret Sommer.

Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre-Hanover Chapel in Hanover. Interment will follow in the Lick Branch Cemetery in Deputy, Indiana. Friends may visit from 2 p.m. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Maxine Roberts

Maxine Hankins Roberts, 89 of Kent, Indiana, died Saturday, July 25, 2020, at her residence in Kent.

She was born Oct. 22, l930, in Switzerland County, Indiana, to William F. and Myrtle Daleglish Hankins. She married Norman J. Roberts on Dec. 10, 1955 and they had three sons. She enjoyed reading, quilting, yard work, spending time with her family and was a longtime member of Hanover Baptist Church in Hanover, Indiana.

Survivors include her sons, Norman F. Roberts of Madison, Indiana, Michael L. Roberts of Hanover and Earl W. Roberts of Madison; her grandchildren Kristen Long, Kimberly Roberts, Megan Hicks and Laura Nicole Wall; and five great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers, Bill Hankins, Mitchell Hankins, David Hankins and Loren, who died in infancy; her sisters, Loretta Fleek, Lela Elston, Marjorie Matthews, Freda Hansman and Esther Hoffman.

Daniel Deeg

Staff Sgt. First Class Daniel G. Deeg (RET), 70, of Madison, Indiana, died unexpectedly on Sunday, July 26, 2020, in a multiple vehicle traffic accident on Clifty Drive in Madison.

He was born March 19, 1950, in Appleton, Wisconsin, to George and Audrey Lamers Deeg. He was raised in Appleton and graduated from Xavier Catholic High School in 1968. He was inducted into the US Army on Nov. 4, 1968 at Milwaukee. He rose to the rank of Specialist Five serving in the 568th Engineers Company during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 30, 1971 at Fort Dix, New Jersey, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device with Two Over Seas Bars, and the Good Conduct Medal. He transferred to the Reserves where he served until Oct. 7, 1974. He married Terri Lefeber on Nov. 9, 1974 and they had six children. He lived in Menasha, Wisconsin, and served with the US Army National Guard from March 1984 until he was honorably discharged on March 1, 2004 and then with retirement on March 19, 2010 as a Staff Sergeant First Class. On Jan. 14, 1995 he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal while serving with Company D, First Battalion, 151st Infantry and again on Nov. 13, 1996 he received a second Army Achievement Medal.

He had attended Fox Valley Tech in Appleton and later earned his HVAC Certification and worked for 30 years in the industry. After moving to Madison in 1982, he worked for Madison Heating and Cooling and later retired in 2015 from Steinhardt Heating and Cooling.

He had an exceptional voice and sang tenor with the Madison Men’s Barbershop Quartet for many years. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in downtown Madison and enjoyed operating Dan and Lee’s Small Engine Repair in Madison for several years. He was an avid Green Bay Packer’s football fan, collected old vinyl records and loved music and enjoyed playing video games and cell phone games.

Surviviors include his wife of nearly 46 years, Terri Lefeber Deeg of Madison; his children, Michelle Blanchett of Jasper, Indiana and Leah Biesen, Daniel James Deeg and Connor Deeg, all of Madison; his brothers, Ron Deeg of Dunedin, Florida and Alan Deeg of Appleton; a sister, Karen VanDinter of Appleton; and six grandchildren, a great grandson and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Aimee Deeg, on Dec. 14, 1977, a sister, Kathy Deeg Ott, in 2014, and a son, Caleb Andrew Deeg, on Jan. 21, 2020.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 31, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Interment will follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison. Friends may visit from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the funeral home.

The Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. A final salute will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home by the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion with full military honors to follow by the Fort Knox Ceremonial Unit at the cemetery.

Charles Oak

Charles Edward Oak, 63, of Carrollton, Kentucky, died Sunday, July 26, 2020 at his home in Carrollton.

He was born Sept. 26, 1956, in Carrollton, to James E. Oak and Margaret Walker Oak. He had worked for Evans Construction Company at the Kentucky Utilities Power Plant in Ghent, Kentucky. He also enjoyed farm work and was a member of the Cove Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie Duncan Oak of Carrollton; two sons, Dallen Oak and Charles Oak Jr., both of Carrollton; a daughter, Mindy Oak of Carrollton; two brothers, John Oak of Carrollton and Gerald Oak of Florence, Kentucky; four sisters, Evelyn Oak and Cindy Oak, both of Carrollton, Pauline Oak of Wyoming and Christine Frieley of Louisville; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Robert E. Oak, James R. Oak, Donald Oak and Jerry Oak; and four sisters, Shirley Riley, Barbara J. Woods, Edith Furnish and Charlotte Hester.

Funeral Services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Ghent Masonic Cemetery in Ghent.

Tony Adams

Anthony “Tony” Dale Adams, 64, of Lexington, Indiana, died Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at his residence.

He was born April 10, 1956, in Madison, Indiana, to Raymond Donald and Sylvia Edna Williams Adams. He was a graduate of Southwestern High School and joined the U.S. Navy, serving from 1977-1981. He worked in the oilfields while living in Oklahoma for several years, was a member of the Moose Lodge and worked as a chef at two Indiana State Parks restaurants and at Hobnob Coroner in Nashville, Indiana. He loved to fish and listen to country and rock music.

He is survived by his mother of Kent, Indiana; his companion, Tina Masters of Lexington; his children, Julie Tuck, Anthony Derek Adams, Alyshia Marie Adams, Brittany Webster and Amanda Waldon; his brothers, Steven Carroll Adams of Kent and Donald Wayne Adams of Madison; and nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his father; his first wife, Linda Adams and his sister, Anita Gale Adams.

Cornelia Eaglin Hancock, 95, of Milton, Kentucky, died Friday, July 24, 2020, at River Terrace Health Campus in Madison, Indiana. She was born Aug. 27, 1924, in Milton, to Jasper and Florida Carter Eaglin. She was a homemaker who loved helping her husband on their farm and enjoyed cooking, sewing and her flower garden. She was a member of Mt. Byrd Christian Church in Milton, but also attended North Madison Christian Church in Madison and Kent Christian Church in Kent, Indiana.

Survivors include a son, Terry Hancock of Florence, Kentucky; three daughters, Carole Pyles of Milton, Judith Davidson of Madison, and Becky Pyles of Carrollton, Kentucky; and eight grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 73 years, John B. Hancock, on May 10, 2012; and a half-sister, Mary Anderson.

He later found a career with NUCOR Gallatin in Ghent, Kentucky, where he worked in the hot mill for the past 23 years while living in Carrollton.

Survivors include his mother of Madison, Indiana; his wife of 28 years, Rebecca Huffman, of Carrollton; a friend, Karen Peters, of Madison, who was like a sister to him; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his father and his brother, Robert Ragan “Bob” Huffman, in 2015.

Mary E. Humphrey, 79, of Madison, Indiana, died Thursday, July 23, 2020, at her residence in Madison.

She was born on Feb. 27, 1941, in Trimble County, Kentucky, to Raymond and Frances McDowell McDole. She moved to Madison in 1958 and married Cecil H. Humphrey Jr. on Feb. 16, 1968. She owned and operated an in-home day care for many years, enjoyed watching television and working in her flower and vegetable gardens.

Survivors include a son, Adam Davis Jr. of Lexington, Indiana; her daughters, Debra Lockridge, Kimberly DeBoard, Tammy Johnson and Rebecca Jones, all of Madison; two sisters, Doris Chatham, of Milton, Kentucky and Ellie Skirvin, of Madison; two brothers, Bobby McDole, of Campbellsburg, Kentucky and Carl McDole, of Madison; and 21 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Adam G. Davis Sr.; her husband, Cecil Humphrey who died in the Vietnam War on May 31, 1968; a son, Gary Humphrey II; three brothers, Kenneth McDole, William McDole and R.D. McDole; two sisters, Marie Hendricks and Stella Aldridge; and three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Nancy Gay McDaniel, 90, of Madison, Indiana, died on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, at the River Terrace Health Campus in Madison.

She was born on July 22, 1929, in Indianapolis, to James E. and Inez Webster McDaniel. She graduated high school in Indianapolis and received her degree in literature from UCLA. She married John B. Triolo on Dec. 9, 1950, in Los Angeles and they had two sons and a daughter. She attended the Unitarian Church and enjoyed going to plays, films, live theater and reading. She had worked for Paragon Business Associates in Culver City, California, and resided in the Los Angeles area from 1980 to 2005 when she moved to Madison. She was one of the original volunteers for AIDS Project LA, she helped many AIDS patients and saw them through to a peaceful passing.

Survivors include her long-time friend, Shawn Faulkner of Buena Park, California; her two sons and daughter and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husbands, John B. Triolo, Delbert J. Swanson and Robert Freeman.

Jo Deva Ogden, 61, of Milton, Kentucky, died Thursday, July 23, 2020, at the Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville.

She was born Sept. 10, 1958, in Madison, Indiana, to Robert “Bob” and Alma Ogden McManis. She was a 1976 graduate of Trimble County High School in Bedford, Kentucky, and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Bedford. She enjoyed cross stitch, reading and listening to classic country music.

Survivors include a daughter, Laura Tomes of Louisville; four sons, Justin Stark, Joey Stark and William Stark, all of Milton and Noah Smith of Bedford; and 11 grandchildren.

Brooklynn Nicole Phillips, 24, of Hanover, Indiana, died on Friday, July 24, 2020, in an ambulance in New Washington, Indiana, from injuries she sustained in a car accident.

She was born July 13, 1996, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, during Hurricane Bertha, to Ronald N. and Kimberly Jo Anderson Phillips. She graduated from Southwestern High School in Hanover in 2015 where she was a cheerleader. She was currently employed with Frisch’s in Madison where she had been a waitress the past three and one-half years. She had formerly worked for Dairy Queen in Sellersburg, Indiana, Pride Market in Hanover, Kroger in Madison and Madison Precision in Madison. She loved music, dancing, swimming, four-wheeling, and her dog, Max.

Survivors include her father of Hanover; her brother, Bradley Phillips of Madison; her grandmothers, Merrilee Phillips O’Neil of Hanover, Sue Armand of Madison and Susan Sommer Anderson of Lexington, Indiana; and a niece, her aunts and uncles, her cousins and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her mother on Jan. 7, 2003; her grandfather, Charles F. “Charlie” Anderson, on Feb. 22, 2012; an uncle, her cousins and her great grandparents, Ferris and Ethel Whicker and Raymond and Margaret Sommer.

She enjoyed reading, quilting, yard work, spending time with her family and was a longtime member of Hanover Baptist Church in Hanover, Indiana.

Survivors include her sons, Norman F. Roberts of Madison, Indiana, Michael L. Roberts of Hanover and Earl W. Roberts of Madison; her grandchildren Kristen Long, Kimberly Roberts, Megan Hicks and Laura Nicole Wall; and five great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Patricia G. “Pat” Fisher, 83, of Brooksburg, Indiana, died Sunday, July 26, 2020, at her residence.

She was born July 16, 1937, in Jefferson County, Indiana, the daughter of Harley G. and Kathleen F. Thompson Patterson. She attended Brooksburg Grade School from grades one through eight and graduated from the former Central High School in Madison, Indiana, in 1955. She was a homemaker and owned and operated antique stores in Brooksburg and Madison. She formerly worked at The Last Straw on Mulberry Street in downtown Madison later in life. She was a volunteer for the Tri Kappa Tour of Homes and a former member of Brooksburg Baptist Church. She was baptized in Manville Creek when she was nine years old.

Survivors include a son, Tim Fisher of Brooksburg; two grandsons Stephen Johnston of Atlanta and Luke Fisher of Pasadena, California; and four half-sister, Wanda, Virginia, Carolyn and Sheryl.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin Brooks “Eddie” Fisher, in 1998; a daughter, Tracey Johnston, in 2019; one half-brother, Marvin Patterson; one sister, Audrey; and her grandmother who raised her, Lula McDowell.

Nancy Lavon Miller Jones, 73, of Aurora, Indiana and formerly of Vevay, Indiana, died Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at the Shady Nook Care Center in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.

She was born June 3, 1947, in Madison, to Robert A. and Dorothy May Bennett Miller. She was raised in Vevay and attended school there. She married Clifford Eugene Jones on Sept. 5, 1966, and they had seven children. She was employed by Randall’s Textron in Vevay and delivered the Cincinnati Enquirer newspaper for several years.

Survivors include her daughters, Connie Hussung and Angel Jones, both of Aurora, Lisa Goff of Osage, Oklahoma, Terry Hickey of Sunman, Indiana and Rita Jones of Dayton, Ohio; a son, Brian Allen Jones of Castleton, Indiana; and six grandchildren, a step-granddaughter, two step-great-grandchildren; a step-great-great-granddaughter and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of nearly 51 years; a son, David Lane Jones; a sister, Lavada U. Woodruff; and a granddaughter and two nephews.

He was born Oct. 23, 1959, in Madison, Indiana, to Albert Owen “Buster” Powers Sr. and Jerri A. Scranton Powers. He was raised in Switzerland County and was a 1979 graduate of Switzerland County High School. He studied astronomy at Indiana University in Bloomington. He was employed as manager for Bob Evans for four years and as a manager for York Steak House in Bloomington for a few years. He also worked in food and beverage for a nursing home in Bloomington and was food service director for Garden Villa Nursing Home in Bloomington, retiring after several years of service due to his health. He enjoyed fishing, looking at the stars and was an avid Star Trek fan and memorabilia collector.

Survivors include his sister, Dianna Powers of Vevay; his brothers, Albert O. Powers Jr. of Vevay and Mark Powers and Michael Powers, both of Madison; his stepchildren, Kim Kent of Bloomington, Kath Kent of Indianapolis and Robert Joseph Gilbert of Bloomington; and his aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, eight step-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren and several cousins.

Randall Snelling

Randall Snelling, 68, of Scottsburg, Indiana, died Tuesday, June 28, 2020, at his home of an aggressive, malignant brain tumor found just seven weeks before his death.

He was born Jan. 13, 1952, in Zanesville, Ohio, to Robert Edward Snelling and Josephine Mancuso Snelling. His family moved to Madison, Indiana, when he was a toddler and he began racing at age five building and driving go-carts alongside his father and older brother. He broke countless track records, won national competitions and filled the family room with first-place trophies. He graduated from Madison Consolidated High School in 1970, serving as student council president and playing basketball and football while also playing drums for his band, The Royal Lancers, throughout his teenage years.

He then attended Indiana University, dropping out after five semesters to hitchhike all over the country and spent his early 20s in Florida, Boston and various other places working as a roofer, janitor, pawn shop clerk and mansion-sitter. Eventually, he returned to Madison and worked at Clifty Creek Power Plant for more that two decades, was married twice, had three children, and finished his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Louisville. In 2001, he moved his family to Cincinnati to work as a medical facility inspector and auditor. He later served as a chief physical environmental officer and retired in March 2020 as the director of operations.

Survivors include his wife, Robin Leigh Christie Snelling of Scottsburg; his daughters, Haley Rene Carlock of Dupont, Indiana and Christie Rae Snelling of Scottsburg; his son, Ryder McQueen Snelling of Scottsburg; his sister, Rebecca Snelling Wise of Cincinnati; his brother, Robert Keith Snelling of Indianapolis; and four grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life will be hosted by the family at a later date.

Daniel Deeg

Staff Sgt. First Class Daniel G. Deeg (RET), 70, of Madison, Indiana, died unexpectedly on Sunday, July 26, 2020, in a multiple vehicle traffic accident on Clifty Drive in Madison.

He was born March 19, 1950, in Appleton, Wisconsin, to George and Audrey Lamers Deeg. He was raised in Appleton and graduated from Xavier Catholic High School in 1968. He was inducted into the US Army on Nov. 4, 1968 at Milwaukee. He rose to the rank of Specialist Five serving in the 568th Engineers Company during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 30, 1971 at Fort Dix, New Jersey, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device with Two Over Seas Bars, and the Good Conduct Medal. He transferred to the Reserves where he served until Oct. 7, 1974. He married Terri Lefeber on Nov. 9, 1974 and they had six children. He lived in Menasha, Wisconsin, and served with the US Army National Guard from March 1984 until he was honorably discharged on March 1, 2004 and then with retirement on March 19, 2010 as a Staff Sergeant First Class. On Jan. 14, 1995 he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal while serving with Company D, First Battalion, 151st Infantry and again on Nov. 13, 1996 he received a second Army Achievement Medal.

He had attended Fox Valley Tech in Appleton and later earned his HVAC Certification and worked for 30 years in the industry. After moving to Madison in 1982, he worked for Madison Heating and Cooling and later retired in 2015 from Steinhardt Heating and Cooling.

He had an exceptional voice and sang tenor with the Madison Men’s Barbershop Quartet for many years. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in downtown Madison and enjoyed operating Dan and Lee’s Small Engine Repair in Madison for several years. He was an avid Green Bay Packer’s football fan, collected old vinyl records and loved music and enjoyed playing video games and cell phone games.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 46 years, Terri Lefeber Deeg of Madison; his children, Michelle Blanchett of Jasper, Indiana and Leah Biesen, Daniel James Deeg and Connor Deeg, all of Madison; his brothers, Ron Deeg of Dunedin, Florida and Alan Deeg of Appleton; a sister, Karen VanDinter of Appleton; and six grandchildren, a great grandson and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Aimee Deeg, on Dec. 14, 1977, a sister, Kathy Deeg Ott, in 2014, and a son, Caleb Andrew Deeg, on Jan. 21, 2020.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 31, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Interment will follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison. Friends may visit from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the funeral home.

Roy Armond “Red” Keith, 77, of Vevay, Indiana, died Saturday, July 25, 2020, at the Norton Hospital in Louisville.

He was born July 8, 1943, in Allensville, Indiana, to James Wilford and Avis O. Chase Keith. He was raised in Switzerland County, Indiana, and was a 1961 graduate of Vevay High School. He was employed for US Shoe Factory in Vevay for a few years. He was inducted into the US Army on Feb. 2, 1965, in Louisville. He received the Marksman (rifle), National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He returned from overseas and was transferred to the US Army Reserves on Jan. 20, 1967, at Fort Hamilton, New York. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist 4th Class on Feb. 1, 1971. He married to Barbara Jean Darbro on Aug. 26, 1978 in Vevay and they had a son. He went to work at Reliance Electric in Madison, Indiana, in 1967 and retired in 2005 after 38 years of service. He was a former member of the Vevay VFW Post No. 5396 and the Vevay American Legion Post No. 185. He enjoyed listening to country music, being outdoors, fishing, playing solitaire and visiting with his family.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 42 years; his son, Derrick Keith of Vevay; a sister, Sarah M. McCreary of Allensville, Indiana; a brother, Jonas Keith of Milan, Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Denver, Albert Wayne, Hubert Welsey, Kirby, Paul Dean, Clifford, Leon, Wilford “Junior” and Larry Keith; his sisters, Juanita Koons and Hazel Knaus; and his infant brother and infant sister.

Randall Snelling, 68, of Scottsburg, Indiana, died Tuesday, June 28, 2020, at his home of an aggressive, malignant brain tumor found just seven weeks before his death.

He was born Jan. 13, 1952, in Zanesville, Ohio, to Robert Edward Snelling and Josephine Mancuso Snelling. His family moved to Madison, Indiana, when he was a toddler and he began racing at age five building and driving go-carts alongside his father and older brother. He broke countless track records, won national competitions and filled the family room with first-place trophies. He graduated from Madison Consolidated High School in 1970, serving as student council president and playing basketball and football while also playing drums for his band, The Royal Lancers, throughout his teenage years.

He then attended Indiana University, dropping out after five semesters to hitchhike all over the country and spent his early 20s in Florida, Boston and various other places working as a roofer, janitor, pawn shop clerk and mansion-sitter. Eventually, he returned to Madison and worked at Clifty Creek Power Plant for more that two decades, was married twice, had three children, and finished his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Louisville. In 2001, he moved his family to Cincinnati to work as a medical facility inspector and auditor. He later served as a chief physical environmental officer and retired in March 2020 as the director of operations.

Survivors include his wife, Robin Leigh Christie Snelling of Scottsburg; his daughters, Haley Rene Carlock of Dupont, Indiana and Christie Rae Snelling of Scottsburg; his son, Ryder McQueen Snelling of Scottsburg; his sister, Rebecca Snelling Wise of Cincinnati; his brother, Robert Keith Snelling of Indianapolis; and four grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life will be hosted by the family at a later date.

Sara Wilson

Sara Jean Tyler Wilson, 60, of Madison, Indiana, died Thursday, July 23, 2020, at her home in Madison.

She was born June 1, 1960, in Jefferson County, Indiana, to Herschel Ingle and Marjorie Jean Brown Tyler. She was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County and a 1978 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School. She was of the Christian faith, enjoyed the outdoors, collecting antiques, knitting, loved her animals, collecting, auctions and going to sales. Sara began working at the U.S. Shoe Corporation in Madison at the age of 17, serving as a foreman for many years. She was employed with Reliance Electric in Madison for 14 years and had worked as a site manager since 2013. She donated life through the gift of blood at numerous blood drives by the American Red Cross, receiving her one gallon pin.

Survivors include her companion of 25 years, Chris Hartman of Madison; her son, Robert William “Will” Konkle of Madison; her stepson, Justin Hartman of Madison; her sisters, Linda Lou Wentworth of Pensacola, Florida, and Cathy Sue Thorpe and Julie Lacy, both of Madison; her brother, Kenneth Washer of Madison; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents, Elmer and Lucy Brown, Louis Clyde and Mary Olive Tyler; and a niece, a nephew and other relatives.

Raymond Aulick

Raymond E. Aulick, 92, of Madison, Indiana, died on Thursday, July 30, 2020, at University of Louisville Hospital, from injuries sustained in a car accident.

He was born Sept. 25, 1927, in Berry, Kentucky, to Dr. Marcus A. and Mary Agnes Schanding Aulick. He was a 1945 graduate of Morgan High School and was raised in the Short Creek Baptist Church. He was inducted into the US Army on March 15, 1946, during World War II, and rose to the rate of Private serving with Company D, 1560th 500 Reception Center at Camp Atterbury. He re-enlisted on March 15, 1946 and served in the Military Police and rose to the rate of Private First Class and was honorably discharged on Aug. 23, 1947, at Fort Lawton, Washington. He had worked as a taxi driver, milkman and road construction worker early in life. He had resided in Madison the past 60 years and retired from Indiana Kentucky Electric Corporation as a unit supervisor after 26 years service. After retirement he enjoyed working in his rose and vegetable gardens and listening to country and folk music. He was a member of Madison VFW Post No. 1969, Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion, the Madison Moose Lodge No. 765, and was an honorary Kentucky Colonel. He was an avid UK Basketball fan.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Betty Coghill Aulick, of Madison; his sons Ed Hackney of Scottsdale, Arizona and Bruce Hackney of Carmel, Indiana; three daughters, Dr. Vannessa Coonrod of Nampa, Idaho, Mary Rotha Willey of Fishers, Indiana and Samantha Jane Aulick-Lemley of Columbus, Indiana; his stepsons, Terry Coghill of Madison and William Coghill of La Grange, Kentucky; and 11 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren, two step granddaughters, a step great-great grandson and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Vicki Aulick and Karen Aulick; his brothers, Robert W. Aulick and Edwin C. Aulick; and a wife, Mona LaDell Johnson Aulick, on May 3, 1983.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Interment will follow in the Springdale Cemetery in downtown Madison. Friends may visit from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.

A final salute will be conducted by the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion at 11:40 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with full military honors to follow at the graveside at Springdale Cemetery.

Lindsey Dalgleish

Lindsey Michelle “Lindsey Dee” Dalgleish, 40, of Madison, Indiana, died unexpectedly Saturday, July 18, 2020, at her home.

She was born Nov. 10, 1979, in Madison, to Michael “Chester” and Cathy Kinnear Dalgleish. She was a 1998 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School and resided most of her life in Jefferson County and Madison. She had three sons and was currently employed as the kitchen and bar manager at Madison Elks Lodge No. 524 in downtown Madison. She had also worked for Bad Apple Mac’s, Horst’s Bakery and the First Street Saloon. She was a great cook, loved music — including watching her father play in Power Plant — and was a big fan of Alice Cooper, retro decorating, pin-up girl memorabilia, socializing and being with her sons and family.

She is survived by her parents, of Dupont, Indiana; her sons, Ruben Dakota Thevenow, Jackson Brent Thacker and Lincoln Michael Thacker, all of Madison; her brother, Zach Dalgleish of Madison; and her aunts and uncles and many cousins and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, John E. and Margaret R. Manley Dalgleish; her maternal grandparents, W. Claude Kinnear and Roberta L. Hough Kinnear; and an uncle and a cousin.

A private service was held by her family and a public celebration the life will be announced at a later date by the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison.

Pat Fisher

Patricia G. “Pat” Fisher, 83, of Brooksburg, Indiana, died Sunday, July 26, 2020, at her residence.

She was born July 16, 1937, in Jefferson County, Indiana, the daughter of Harley G. and Kathleen F. Thompson Patterson. She attended Brooksburg Grade School from grades one through eight and graduated from the former Central High School in Madison, Indiana, in 1955. She was a homemaker and owned and operated antique stores in Brooksburg and Madison. She formerly worked at The Last Straw on Mulberry Street in downtown Madison later in life. She was a volunteer for the Tri Kappa Tour of Homes and a former member of Brooksburg Baptist Church. She was baptized in Manville Creek when she was nine years old.

Survivors include a son, Tim Fisher of Brooksburg; two grandsons Stephen Johnston of Atlanta and Luke Fisher of Pasadena, California; and four half-sister, Wanda, Virginia, Carolyn and Sheryl.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin Brooks “Eddie” Fisher, in 1998; a daughter, Tracey Johnston, in 2019; one half-brother, Marvin Patterson; one sister, Audrey; and her grandmother who raised her, Lula McDowell.

A private funeral service was held Wednesday, July 29 at First Baptist Church of Madison with interment in Brooksburg Cemetery.

Mary Ragan

Mary Jane Jones Ragan, 93, of Vevay, Indiana, died on Thursday, July 30, 2020, at the Manderly Health Care Center in Osgood, Indiana.

She was born Sept. 15, 1926, in Wayne County, Kentucky, to John Morehead and Rosie Elsie Catron Jones. She was raised in Wayne County and graduated from Monticello High School. She married James Grider Ragan in New Castle, Indiana, and was employed by Modern Fold Industries in New Castle, retiring in 1972 after 19 years and 10 months service. She was a member of the Vevay Assembly Church in Vevay, Indiana, was a wonderful seamstress and enjoyed crocheting, painting, raising flowers, gardening and watching birds.

Survivors include her daughters, Sharon Patricia Lee Elkins of Hagerstown, Indiana, Rebecca Ragan Bunner of Vevay and Marquetté Ragan Roberson of Indianapolis; a sister, Annette Denney of Frankfort, Kentucky; and seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of more than 40 years on Oct. 31, 1996.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, at the Vevay Assembly Church. Graveside Services will be at 2:30 p.m., Friday in the South Mound Cemetery in New Castle. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the church.

John Robbins

John Andrew Robbins, 77, of Madison, Indiana, died Wednesday, July 29, 2020, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus, Indiana.

He was born on Oct. 31, 1942, in Madison, to William S. and Ruth M. Richards Robbins. He graduated from Madison Consolidated High School in 1961 and was a lifelong resident of Madison. He married Phyllis E. Hearne on Sept. 11, 1964, and they had two sons. He retired from Envirex in 2006 after 41 years as an assembler. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a former volunteer firefighter for Walnut Street No. 4 Fire Company since the age of 18. He was active in the Democratic party, was a precinct committeeman and was a member of the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the Son’s of the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading and socializing and going to Mike’s Diner daily.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 56 years, of Madison; his sons, Brian Robbins and Michael “Mike” Robbins, both of Madison; a brother, Joseph Robbins of Noblesville, Indiana; and nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Bette J. Ralston; and two brothers, Gerald and William Robbins.

Randal Bishop

Randal Young Bishop, 88, of Charlotte, North Carolina, died there on Wednesday, July 29, 2020.

He was born in Gatliff, Kentucky, to Nora Lee Young Bishop and Roy Abel Bishop. He grew up on the family farm at Bishop Bend in Owsley County, Kentucky, until age 14 when his father died in an automobile accident and then spent his high school years in Corbin, Kentucky, graduating from Corbin High School. As a teenager, he was a member of the national Aviation Cadet Program, stimulating a lifelong interest in aviation.

He attended the University of Kentucky where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon and Pershing Rifles, but left college early to join the US Air Force during the Korean War, training as an Air Traffic Controller. He was stationed in Japan directing air traffic into w ar zones and training others. While there he mastered some of the Japanese language and later taught his children and students some of the language. After his discharge, he returned to Louisville where he met and married his wife Dr. Ina Sue M. Marquis Bishop and they were married on Feb. 27, 1960 in Madison, Indiana.

He graduated from Murray State University with BA degree in social studies and political science, organized the MSU Aquatics Club and established a community program to teach swimming to mentally challenged children. He was certified as a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and Small Craft Instructor and taught swimming classes and water safety over the years.

He began his career as a teacher with fifth and sixh graders in North Vernon, Indiana, where he was also assistant tennis coach. He earned a MS in Counseling and EdS in School Administration at Indiana University and was a popular teacher with students in the Indianapolis school system until his retirement, teaching high school and adult evening school, and establishing and coaching the chess club. His professional activities included serving as President of the Indianapolis Teachers Association of the IEA, and as a site accreditation visitor to secondary schools in several states for the North Central Association. He was active in politics in Indiana as a candidate for state representative and was a Precinct Committeeman for the Republican Party while in later years he was a proud Independent.

After retirement he moved to Charlotte in 1993 and was an ERA Charlotte Realtor.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years; a son, Jon Marquis Bishop; a daughter, Heather Suzanne Bishop; a brother, Rex Bishop of Bedford, Kentucky; a sister, Dr. Yvonne Bishop Shoemaker of La Grange Kentucky; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family held a private graveside service at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte and will plan a memorial service in the spring when it is safer to gather after the virus pandemic. Arrangements by McEwen Funeral Service in Charlotte.

Marcus Culver

Marcus W. Culver, 47, of Madison, Indiana, died on Saturday, July 25, 2020, at the River Terrace Health Campus in Madison.

He was born on Sept. 23, 1972, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Jim Culver and Terry Bell Ginther Eldredge. He had worked at The Madison Courier and the Warf Restaurant where he worked in the kitchen. His greatest joy was his daughter. He loved cats, playing Uno, spending time at the river and with his family and was the greatest shopping partner ever.

Survivors include his daughter, Erin Culver of Hanover; his fathers, Jim Culver of Sunman, Indiana and Bill Eldredge of Madison; his sister, Tracy Youngblood of Madison; a niece, Jorrica Youngblood of Madison; a nephew, Zayrin Youngblood of Madison; and several aunts and uncles.

Freddie Romans

Freddie Romans, 84, of Madison, Indiana, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020, at his home near Brooksburg, Indiana, after battling dementia the past two years.

He was born on Nov. 3, 1935, in Cross Plains in Ripley County, Indiana, to Howard Sr. and Katherine Copeland Romans. He was raised in the Manville community and was of the Baptist faith. He married Joyce L. Harmon in Trimble County, Kentucky, on Feb. 18, 1961, and they had three children, settling in Brooksburg where he farmed all of his life and operated a Grade A dairy for 26 years. He also drove a school bus for six years for Madison Consolidated School and had served on the Canaan Water Board for several years. He enjoyed hard work, raising a large vegetable garden, fishing and being with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years; a daughter, Robin Gray of Brooksburg; a son, Randy Romans of Brooksburg; two brothers, Harold Romans and Howard “Junior” Romans, both of Brooksburg; two sisters, Pauline Ferris of Greensburg, Indiana and Linda Sellers of Lawrenceburg, Indiana; and 10 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Billy Romans; a sister, Allene Bentz Kern; two brothers, Roy Romans and Harley Romans; and a grandson.
