Carrie Barker

Carolyn “Carrie” Stewart Barker, 50, died on Saturday, July 11, 2020, at the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville.

She was born on May 4, 1970, in Heidelberg, Germany, to Ron Stewart of Milton, Kentucky, and Julie Buckner Lewis of Sanders, Kentucky. She had served in the U.S. Navy, was currently working for Parts Unlimited in La Grange, Kentucky, as a customer service representative and was a member of the English Christian Church.

Survivors include her father and stepmother, Ron and Rita Stewart of Milton; her mother and stepfather, Julie and Mike Lewis of Sanders; two sons, Joshua Michael Barker of Sarasota, Florida and Sean Greggory Barker with the U.S. Navy in Norfolk, Virginia; a brother, Bradley Allen Stewart of Charleston, South Carolina; two stepsisters, Brittany Laine Irving of Farmville, Virginia and Tammie Lynn Lewis of Lexington, Kentucky; and a granddaughter, Laila Rose Barker.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, at the English Christian Church near Carrollton. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the church.

Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, church occupancy will be limited to 50% normal capacity, so be prepared for a possible wait line. Strict adherence to 6-foot social distancing guidelines will be followed and attendees must wear a face mask while attending unless a medical condition prevents mask usage.

Jo Jenkins

Jolynn “Jo” Dee Oliver Jenkins, age 44, of North Vernon, Indiana, died on Saturday, July 11, 2020, at Seymour Crossing in Seymour, Indiana.

She was born on June 7, 1976 in Richland, Pennsylvania, to James and Barbara Lape Oliver. She graduated in 1994 from Elco High School in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, and resided most of her life in Richland before moving to North Vernon in 2009. She had worked at Hershey’s, New Holland and Quill while living in Pennsylvania. After moving to Indiana she worked for Smoker’s Friendly for the past 12 years, managing stores in Hanover and Columbus. She liked to play pool, collect wolves, go to festivals, flea markets, and Chevrolet trucks.

Survivors include her daughters, Lonnie Lengel Lloyd of Hanover, Indiana and Colleen Oliver of Vernon, Indiana; her grandson, Christopher Robert Eugene Lloyd, of Hanover; her close friend, Beth Austin of Hanover; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Sherri Yordy.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Interment will follow in the Monroe Cemetery on Madison’s hilltop. Friends may visit from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and from noon until the time of services Thursday at the funeral home.

Tony Bilz

George “Tony” Anthony Bilz, 79, of Madison, Indiana, died Monday, July 13, 2020, at the Norton Hospital in Louisville.

He was born Nov. 10, 1940, in Madison, to Francis M. Bilz Sr. and Helen Nadine Distel Bilz. He resided all of his life in Madison and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and Central High School. He was raised in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in downtown Madison and married Brenda Sue Lindsey in 1961 and they had a daughter and two sons. He retired after 48 and one-half years with the Kroger Company as the produce manager. He loved to work in his garden, canning his produce, raising tobacco for 50 years, helping his sons with their many projects and hunting, fishing and camping.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Anthony “Tony” “Beezer” Bilz and John David Bilz, both of Madison; his brothers, Bill Bilz of Greenwood, Indiana, Francis Bilz Jr. of Kent, Indiana; his sister, Francis Georgene “Bo” Hammond of Tuscumbia, Alabama; and three grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 55 years, Brenda Sue Lindsey Bilz, in 2016; and his daughter, Beverly Jean Lindsey, in 1975.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 17, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison, Interment will follow in the Springdale Cemetery in downtown Madison. Friends may visit from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Lynn King

Lynn Carroll King, 86, of Greenwood, Indiana and formerly of Hanover, Indiana, died Sunday, July 12, 2020, at the Franciscan Health Hospice House in Indianapolis.

He was born March 17, 1934, near Kent in Jefferson County, Indiana, to Harry Edward and Juanita Isabelle Corman King. He was a 1952 graduate of Hanover High School in Hanover, Indiana, and was married to Patricia Henry on Jan. 14, 1954 and they had two daughters and a son. He was employed at Rex-Chainbelt/Rexnord for many years before working as a journeyman carpenter and millwright with Local 1076 from 1972 to 1999. He was raised in the Kent United Methodist Church but after marrying became a member of the Hanover United Methodist Church. He moved to Indianapolis in 1990 and became an active member of the Rosedale Hills United Methodist Church and later moved to Greenwood in 2004. He was a member of the Hanover Masonic Lodge No.652 F. & A.M. since 1956, an early adopter of technology and always kept up with the latest technologies and newest devices available.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Patricia “Patty” Henry King of Greenwood; his daughters, Lu Carole West of Zionsville, Indiana and Jennifer Aders of Bristow, Indiana; a son, Christopher Lynn King of Louisville; his brother, Stanley E. King of Lexington, Indiana; and seven grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:20 p.m. Sunday, July 19, at the Hanover Cemetery on Logan’s Point Drive in Hanover. Hanover Masonic Lodge No. 652 F. & A.M. will conduct a service at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the cemetery.

Leroy Lacey Jr.

Leroy Lacey Jr., 89, of North Vernon, Indiana, died Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 8, 1930, in Vernon, Indiana, to Leroy Lacey Sr. and Bertha Mae Beam Lacey. He married Thelma Louise Redicker on Feb. 19, 1955 and they had four children. He served in the U.S. Army and was a line worker for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, Indiana, for 10 years before retiring in 1986. He had previously worked on the line for Arvin’s in Seymour for 20 years. He was a member of Rush Branch United Methodist Church in Jennings County and enjoyed fishing, cutting firewood and wood crafts.

Survivors include his children, Barbara Neal and Beverly Waltermire, both of Commiskey, Indiana, Danny Lacey of Butlerville, Indiana and Robert Lacey of North Vernon; his siblings, Delores Hibbard, Betty Hawkins and Earl Lacey, all of North Vernon; and seven grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 55 years; his siblings, Robert, James, Charles, Frank, Merle and Paul Lacey and Pat Canary and Dorothy Combest; and one grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 17, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rush Branch United Methodist Cemetery near Butlerville.

Robin Lanum

Robin Lynn Lanum, 56, of Madison, Indiana, died Sunday, July 12, 2020, at her residence in Madison.

She was born April 14, 1964, in Gary, Indiana, to Roderick B. Lanum and Joan Patricia Blades. She was a graduate of North Central High School and Butler University. She was a flight attendant for American Trans Air for 17 years and had the opportunity to travel around the world on numerous occasions, fulfilling a dream of hers.

Survivors include her parents; her sister, Allison Lanum; and her nephews, Kevin and O’Neil McGean.

A Memorial Service for family members will be held at a later date.

Ginny Leap

Virginia Ann “Ginny” Martin Leap, 74, of Vevay, Indiana, died Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.

She was born on March 4, 1946, in Florence, Indiana, to Margaret Anna Martin. She was raised in Florence and was a 1964 graduate of Vevay High School in Vevay, Indiana. She married Donald Dale “Donnie” Leap on April 26, 1969 and they had two daughters. She was employed as the office manager for the Vevay Reveille, retiring on June 1, 2015 after 52 years of service. She was a member of the Vevay American Legion Post No. 185 Ladies Auxiliary and Florence Church of Christ. She enjoyed reading and was a great proof reader.

Survivors include her daughters, Marci Lynn Leap and Michelle Lynn Carfield, both of Vevay; a sister, Ruth Lohide of East Enterprise, Indiana; her grandchildren, James Dustin Carfield, Kali Carfield, Courtney Ryan Carfield and Kylie Jo Carfield; a great-grandson, Derek Joseph Wade Carfield; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother; her husband of 46 years, Donald Dale “Donnie” Leap, on Dec. 24, 2015; and a sister, Betty Jean Martin Mishler, on Aug. 9, 2015.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 18, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay.

Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery there. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, July 17, at the funeral home.

Joyce Sanders

Joyce Ann Sanders, 83, of Carrollton, Kentucky, died Monday, July 13, 2020, at Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville.

She was born June 9, 1937, in Madison, Indiana, to James Todd Hoskins and Lucy Hoskins. She was a member of the Faith Community Church and had worked as a restaurant cook locally for several years and was a caregiver to the elderly and infirm.

Survivors include three sons, Jamie Sanders, Clinton Sanders and Tim Tharp, all of Carrollton; two stepsons, Tony Sanders of Eminence, Kentucky and Billy Sanders of Campbellsburg, Kentucky; three stepdaughters, Sue Olds of Bedford, Kentucky, Kay Sanders of Campbellsburg and Krista Loeffler of Munich, Germany; a sister, Martha Jane Reynolds of Carrollton; a brother, David Hoskins of Carrollton; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Benjamin Earl Tharp in 1963, her second husband, Kenneth Teague Sanders in 1996; a son, Benny Tharp in 2012; two sisters, Sue Thomas and Tommie Skirvin; and two brothers, Jimmy Hoskins and Donnie Hoskins.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 18, at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Ghent Masonic Cemetery in Ghent, Kentucky.

Richard Thorne

Richard Lee Thorne, 70, of Madison, Indiana, died on Sunday, July 12, 2020, at Norton Hospital in Louisville.

He was born March 11, 1950, in Indianapolis, to Bobby L. and Gilberta Glore Thorne. He resided nearly all of his life in Jefferson County, Indiana, and graduated from Madison Consolidated High School in 1968. He married Cheri Marlene Todd in 1974. He was a chef for more than 37 years having worked many years at the Clifty Falls State Park Inn, the Madison Elks Lodge No. 524 and the Ogle Haus Inn. From 1974-1987 he resided in Louisville and had cooked for Gas Light on the Square, Holiday Inn, the Savoy and The Chapel. After returning to Madison he worked again for the Clifty Falls State Park Inn. He loved to cook, go fishing, gamble at the casinos, and go “junk-in” with his brother.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Cheri Marlene Todd Thorne of Madison; his daughters, Yvon O’Banion and Marlene Moon of Madison; his sons, Curtis Todd of Madison and Danny Todd of Lillington, North Carolina; his sisters, Janet Wood and Barbara Thorne, both of Lexington, Indiana; his brother, David Thorne of Milton, Kentucky; and 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three grandchildren and other relatives.

Betty H. Browning, 94, of Columbus, Indiana, died Wednesday, July 15, 2020, at Columbus Regional Hospital there.

She was born June 21, 1926, in Madison, Indiana, to Francis and Helen Distel Bilz. She married John R. Browning on July 15, 1946, and they had two children. She was a homemaker and was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Columbus, Women of the Moose, American Legion and V.F.W. Auxiliary, and the Women’s Gild at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church. She loved to bake and was known for her homemade noodles.

Survivors include her children, Linda Sullivan of Madison, Indiana, and Bob Browning Jr. of Bargersville, Indiana; her brothers, William Bilz of Greenwood, Indiana, Robert Bilz of Columbus and Francis Bilz Jr. of Madison; a sister, Frances “Bo” Hammond of Alabama; and four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, six step great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years on July 31, 2009; and her brothers, Russell Bilz and Tony Bilz.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 20, at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Garland Brook Mausoleum in Columbus. Family and friends may visit from noon until time of mass at the church. Bobby Miller

Bobby Dean Miller, 84, of Carrollton, Kentucky, died Wednesday, July 15, 2020, at the Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville.

He was born Dec. 16, 1935, to Isaac C. Miller and Marie Miles. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a jet engine mechanic and later retired from the former M&T Chemical Company, now P.M. C. Organometallix, in Carrollton, as a chemical operation supervisor. He was a member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church of the Living GOD in Bedford, Kentucky, and a former member of the NRA and the Major Samuel Woodfill American Legion Post No. 9 in Madison, Indiana.

Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Mary Doris Mock Miller of Carrollton; a son, Timothy Miller of Carrollton; two daughters, Deborah Louise “Debbie” Mccusker of Carrollton and Cindy Brown of Warsaw, Kentucky; one brother, Ronald “Ronnie” Miller of Dallas, Texas; and three stepchildren, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Kenneth “Red” Miller, Coy Miller, Chester Miller and Isaac “Ikie” Miller.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 20, at the Dallasburg Masonic Cemetery near Wheatley, Kentucky. Military honors will be presented at the graveside. There will be no public visitation.

Social distancing practices are recommended at the cemetery for the graveside service.

Gregory Thacker

Gregory S. Thacker, 67, of Madison, Indiana, died Tuesday, March 31, 2020, at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.

He was born Nov. 15, 1952, in Ohio, to Calvin and Betty Atkins Thacker. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Jan. 21, 1970, during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on Oct. 30, 1972. He was a teacher for many years and a member of the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 American Legion in Madison. He married Mary Thurber on June 2, 2018 in Milton, Kentucky, and enjoyed going out and dancing with his wife and hanging out with his chidlren.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Thurber Thacker, of Madison; his children, Michelle Thacker of Wilmington, Ohio, Dennis Thacker of Mowrystown, Ohio, Robert Thacker of Goshen, Ohio, Seth Thacker of Mount Washington, Ohio, Jason Thacker of Asheville, North Carolina, Calvin Thacker of Louisville, Katie Sayles of Alexandria, Indiana, Aaron Starr of St. Petersburg, Florida and Adam Starr of Madison; his sisters, Wendy Thacker De-Camp of Fayetteville, Ohio and Darleen Thacker Cain of Milford, Ohio; and 20 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services will be at noon on Saturday, July 25, at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison.

Lynn King

Lynn Carroll King, 86, of Greenwood, Indiana and formerly of Hanover, Indiana, died Sunday, July 12, 2020, at the Franciscan Health Hospice House in Indianapolis.

He was born March 17, 1934, near Kent in Jefferson County, Indiana, to Harry Edward and Juanita Isabelle Corman King. He was a 1952 graduate of Hanover High School in Hanover, Indiana, and was married to Patricia Henry on Jan. 14, 1954 and they had two daughters and a son. He was employed at Rex-Chainbelt/Rexnord for many years before working as a journeyman carpenter and millwright with Local 1076 from 1972 to 1999. He was raised in the Kent United Methodist Church but after marrying became a member of the Hanover United Methodist Church. He moved to Indianapolis in 1990 and became an active member of the Rosedale Hills United Methodist Church and later moved to Greenwood in 2004. He was a member of the Hanover Masonic Lodge No.652 F. & A.M. since 1956, an early adopter of technology and always kept up with the latest technologies and newest devices available.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Patricia “Patty” Henry King of Greenwood; his daughters, Lu Carole West of Zionsville, Indiana and Jennifer Aders of Bristow, Indiana; a son, Christopher Lynn King of Louisville; his brother, Stanley E. King of Lexington, Indiana; and seven grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:20 p.m. Sunday, July 19, at the Hanover Cemetery on Logan’s Point Drive in Hanover. Hanover Masonic Lodge No. 652 F. & A.M. will conduct a service at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the cemetery.

Ginny Leap

Virginia Ann “Ginny” Martin Leap, 74, of Vevay, Indiana, died Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.

She was born on March 4, 1946, in Florence, Indiana, to Margaret Anna Martin. She was raised in Florence and was a 1964 graduate of Vevay High School in Vevay, Indiana. She married Donald Dale “Donnie” Leap on April 26, 1969 and they had two daughters. She was employed as the office manager for the Vevay Reveille, retiring on June 1, 2015 after 52 years of service. She was a member of the Vevay American Legion Post No. 185 Ladies Auxiliary and Florence Church of Christ. She enjoyed reading and was a great proof reader.

Survivors include her daughters, Marci Lynn Leap and Michelle Lynn Carfield, both of Vevay; a sister, Ruth Lohide of East Enterprise, Indiana; her grandchildren, James Dustin Carfield, Kali Carfield, Courtney Ryan Carfield and Kylie Jo Carfield; a great-grandson, Derek Joseph Wade Carfield; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother; her husband of 46 years, Donald Dale “Donnie” Leap, on Dec. 24, 2015; and a sister, Betty Jean Martin Mishler, on Aug. 9, 2015.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 18, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay.

Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery there. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, July 17, at the funeral home.

Due to COVID-19, CDC and state guidelines on social distancing and crowd size will be observed and face masks are required for attendance of visitation and funeral.

Gregory Thacker

Gregory S. Thacker, 67, of Madison, Indiana, died Tuesday, March 31, 2020, at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.

He was born Nov. 15, 1952, in Ohio, to Calvin and Betty Atkins Thacker. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Jan. 21, 1970, during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on Oct. 30, 1972. He was a teacher for many years and a member of the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 American Legion in Madison. He married Mary Thurber on June 2, 2018 in Milton, Kentucky, and enjoyed going out and dancing with his wife and hanging out with his chidlren.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Thurber Thacker, of Madison; his children, Michelle Thacker of Wilmington, Ohio, Dennis Thacker of Mowrystown, Ohio, Robert Thacker of Goshen, Ohio, Seth Thacker of Mount Washington, Ohio, Jason Thacker of Asheville, North Carolina, Calvin Thacker of Louisville, Katie Sayles of Alexandria, Indiana, Aaron Starr of St. Petersburg, Florida and Adam Starr of Madison; his sisters, Wendy Thacker De-Camp of Fayetteville, Ohio and Darleen Thacker Cain of Milford, Ohio; and 20 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services will be at noon on Saturday, July 25, at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison.
