Keith Hazelwood
Donald Keith Hazelwood, 59, of Deputy, Indiana, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019, in a multiple vehicular accident on Clifty Drive.
He was born July 12, 1959, in Madison, to Leslie R. and Anna Love Huff Hazelwood. He was raised in Deputy and was a 1977 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School. He lived in Deputy most his life and had worked with the Deputy Alumni Association for several years and was a former president of the alumni. He had attended and was a member of Lick Branch Baptist Church near Deputy. On April 25, 1980, he married Mary Jo LeGrand and they had one daughter. He had worked as a desk clerk for the Hillside Inn and Clifty Inn State Park. He also had worked at Lowe’s Distribution Center. He loved to decorate, shop, garden, work with flowers, go to yard sales and flea markets, photography and going to the Goodwill stores. He loved his family and they were the most important part of his life.
He is survived by his daughter, Amy Josephine Hazelwood Cull of Bedford, Kentucky; two brothers, Bobby Hazelwood of Deputy and John Hazelwood of Pendleton, Indiana; two sisters, Judy Warner of Madison and Denise Hanson of Pendleton, Indiana; two grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Sandra Kay Hazelwood; two brothers, William Joseph Hazelwood and Ronald Eugene Hazelwood.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will follow in Lick Branch Cemetery near Deputy.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Sunday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Monday from noon until the service.

Benjamin Howery
Benjamin Franklin Howery, 80, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019, at his home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
He was born April 21, 1938, in Chicago, to Angela Voda and Benjamin Franklin Howery. His father passed away when he was 8 years old. His mother later married George Brockmeier who was a caring stepfather. The family summered on Lake Michigan near Chesterton, Indiana, and later moved to the lake when he was beginning high school. Growing up on the lake was an important part of his life. He graduated from Chesterton High School and then attended Indiana University, where he met his future wife, Diane Hamilton. Settling in Columbus, he began work at Hartup Tool, where he remained for more than 30 years, working first in tool and die and later with the special machinery division. He was both curious and inquisitive. He was precise, patient and detail-oriented. He taught his family to really notice details and beauty in the world around us. He loved being outdoors. He believed if a job was worth doing, it should be done well. He loved his books and was interested in all types of history from pre-historic to the beginnings of our country. He was a loving husband and a supportive and a fun companion for life’s journey together. He was a proud and involved father and grandfather. He met the struggles of Alzheimer’s disease with courage and grace, working so hard to help and do what was needed. He had special smiles for loved ones until the very end.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Hamilton Howery; two sons, John Allen Howery and Matthew Hamilton Howery; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Angela Johnson; and stepbrothers, Warren and Raymond Brockmeier.
There will be a memorial service at 7 p.m. Thursday at Westside Community Church in Columbus, Indiana.
Visitation will be at the church Thursday from 5 p.m. until the service.
There will be committal service at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Canaan Cemetery in Canaan, Indiana.

Glenn Johnson
Glenn Allen Johnson, 65, of Sparta, Kentucky, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019, at his home.
He was born Sept. 27, 1953, in Ghent, Kentucky, to Elkanah Johnson and Eula Mae Shaw Johnson. He had worked as a carpenter most his life.
He is survived by his wife, Vicky Prather Johnson of Sparta; three sons, Allen Johnson of Sparta, Jeffery Welch of Sanders, Kentucky, and Ricky Welch of Carrollton; one brother, Jerry Johnson of Carrollton; three sisters, Jewell Wolfe of Carrollton, Barbara Burkhardt of Milton, Kentucky, Mildrene “Mickey” Morris of Charlestown, Indiana; his “Mama 2” as she was known, Julie McIntosh of Carrollton; several grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Glenn Allen Johnson Jr. and Larry Dewayne Johnson; one daughter, Amy Lynn Perkins; his parents; seven brothers, Garvin Johnson, Winston Johnson, Kanah Paul “Johnnie” Johnson, Joel Johnson, Clayborn Johnson, Leon Johnson and Jimmy Johnson; two sisters, Juanita White and Doris June Hylton; and four grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Sparta Baptist Church in Sparta.
Visitation will be at the church Monday from 2 p.m. until the service.
Cremation has been chosen by the family.

Jerry Massie
Jerry Lee Massie, 71, of Madison died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019, at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg, Indiana.
He was born Feb. 7, 1947, in Madison, to Samuel Augustus and Josephine Gertrude Garrett Massie. He lived most his life in Jefferson County and was a 1965 graduate of Southwestern High School, where he ran track and participated in the choir. He was a graduate of IU School of Business in Bloomington. He was inducted into the U.S. Army Oct. 6, 1966, at Louisville. He rose to the rank of Specialist Four serving in the 11th battalion light weapons infantry and tank division during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged August 27, 1968, having served at the First US Army Medical Hold Company US Ireland Army Hospital receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Expert Pistol Badge and the Marksman Rifle Badge from Fort Knox, Kentucky. He remained in the Reserves until being discharged Oct. 5, 1972. He had served as a real estate agent and was in partnership with Nighbert-Wolf Realty in Madison. He also worked for over 20 years as a loan officer and served as assistant vice president of Madison First Federal in Madison. He also had held various sales positions with other companies and enjoyed selling motorcycles for Bircher’s. He was very active in the Young Republicans and had worked many of the local elections. He was a member of Major Samuel Woodfill Post 9 of the American Legion, Madison VFW Post 1969, Hanover Masonic Lodge No. 652 F. & A.M. and served as a past master of the lodge, the Madison Elks Lodge No. 524, the Old Madison Country Club, was a charter member of the Madison Historic Board, project president of the Madison Consolidated Cafeteria building project, had served as president of the Madison Area Chamber of Commerce and the Sunrise Golf Course. He was an avid golfer and was proud to have five holes in one, he had a very exciting time playing the St. Andrew’s Course in Scotland. He loved his dog, Minnie, gardening and was proud that his gardens were featured in Midwest Living and Country Living Magazines. He was an avid IU fan and enjoyed meeting and talking with Coach Bobby Knight. He was a hunter and fisherman. He was a very social individual and loved his friends and serving his community.
He is survived by his wife, Dottie Hines Weber-Massie of Madison, whom he married April 11, 1992; one daughter, Erin Gordon of Versailles, Indiana; two stepdaughters, Tracey Humphrey of Pendleton, Indiana, and Laura Kirby of Carmel, Indiana; one stepson, Tom Weber of Middletown, Indiana; one brother, Edward Nathan “Buddy” Massie of Madison; two grandchildren; seven step -grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Nellie Quisenberry, Dorothy Elizabeth Edwards, and Marjorie H. Brierly.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will be at a later date in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Sunday from 11 a.m. until the service.
A final salute and military honors will be at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home conducted by Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion and the Fort Knox Ceremonial Unit.

Rick Wehner
Ervin “Rick” Martin Wehner, 75, of New Albany, Indiana, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, at New Albany Nursing and Rehab.
He was born May 11, 1943, in Kent, Indiana, to Ernest Otto and Dorcas June Chitwood Wehner. He lived in Jefferson County most his life and was proud to have received his GED from Madison Consolidated High School in 1983. He retired as a truck driver with Ernest Wehner and Sons Trucking after 40 years of service. He was a 60-year member of Wirt Baptist Church and also attended the North Madison Baptist Church when his health permitted. He enjoyed working on his computer, loved genealogy, collecting recipes, watching movies, hydroplane racing and boat races. He had lived the past nine years in New Albany.
He is survived by one sister, Julia Alayne Wehner Wallace, of New Concord, Ohio; one uncle; two aunts; two neices; one nephew; one great-nephew; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ernest Errol Wehner Sr.; his infant sister, Dorcas June Wehner; and one nephew.
There will be a graveside service at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bayless Cemetery in Madison. Burial will follow in Bayless Cemetery.
Visitation will be at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre Saturday from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

Lucy Zetko
Lucy Mae DePas Zetko, 98, of Madison, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, at Hickory Creek in Madison.
She was born Jan. 30, 1920, in Courley Town, Michigan, to Joseph and Hazel Jossart DePas. She was raised in Northern Michigan and graduated from the Broadview Academy. She then attended the Greenville School of Nursing and Madison College to complete her nursing degree. While at Madison College she met the man who would be come her husband, Joe Zetko. They settled in the Peewee Valley and Crestwood, Kentucky, communities and lived there for 60 years. She first taught school in Stillwell and Ardmore, Oklahoma. She had worked for Dr. Leland, Dr. Wheeler and Dr. Strom, the Pleasant Grove Hospital, Friendship Manor Nursing Center, and Pewee Valley Hospital. She also worked at the Salvation Army in Louisville helping to deliver many babies. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and photography. She was a member of Pewee Valley Seventh-day Adventist Church. She will be remembered by what she always said, “I’ll see you in the morning light.”
She is survived by two sons, Allen Zetko Sr. of Houston, Texas, and Gary Zetko of Smithfield, Kentucky; one daughter, Lois Zetko of Spencer, Tennessee; her granddaughter and caregiver, Christine Zetko of Madison; 14 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Zetko; her parents; three brothers, Herbert, Edwin and Laddie DePas; three sisters, Eva Siewart, Bea Soper and Grace Gordon; one granddaughter; and one grandson.
Memorial services will be at a later date.
