Lloyd Elston
Lloyd Keith Elston, 76, of Charlestown, Indiana, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019, at his home.
He was born Dec. 30, 1942, in Madison, to Clarence Freedly and Opal Brooks Elston. He worked as a steel fabricator at Jeffboat, Niemco Fabrication and MidPark. He retired in 2009.
He is survived by one daughter, Lana Elston of Jeffersonville, Indiana; two sons, Leslie Elston and Brian Elston, both of Charlestown; two brothers, Dillion Elston of Anderson, Indiana, and Wayne Lahnam of Lexington, Indiana; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Erana Rae Jackson Elston, who died in 2016; his parents; three sisters, Donna Layne, Shirley Elston and Linda Sue Parker; and one brother, Earl Dean Elston.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Grayson Funeral Home in New Washington, Indiana. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Owen Creek Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
Ellen Gatrell
Ellen Louise Gatrell, 84, of North Vernon, Indiana, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019, at her home.
She was born Jan. 26, 1935, in Deputy, to Everett and Minnie Stutsman Hammersley. She was a 1953 graduate of Deputy High School and worked for 20 years at Jennings Villa, from which she retired in 2010. She previously worked 20 years as an attendant for the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center. She was a member of Vernon Baptist Church and enjoyed reading and traveling.
She is survived by two sons, Mark McCreery and Johnny Gatrell, both of North Vernon; three daughters, Tara McCreery, Laura James and Johna Palmer, all of North Vernon; one brother, Ray Hammersley of Deputy; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Burial will follow in Vernon Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service.
Expressions of sympathy may be made through the funeral home to Jennings County Animal Control.
Alice Heath
Alice Luella Wiley Heath of Anderson, Indiana, died Feb. 5, 2019.
She was born Nov. 29, 1937, in Florence, Indiana, to Albert and Miriam Reeder Wiley. After graduating from high school in 1955, she received a scholarship to nursing school and moved to Lexington, Kentucky, to pursue nursing education at the Appalachian School of Nursing. After moving to Anderson in 1959, she worked at St. John’s Hospital and then helped to open Community Hospital in 1962. She worked at Community — most of the time in the newborn nursery —until her retirement after 31 years. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling, visiting her family and volunteering at the hospital. She loved going to church, the Highland High School Band, the Cincinnati Reds, camping and traveling with her husband. A large part of that travel was by motorcycle. She was a member of Anderson First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Elbert Eugene “Gene” Heath, whom she married 1955; three children, Terry Heath, Tamera Veverka and Timothy Heath; one sister, Alberta Pickett; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Robert, Norman and Ivan; and three sisters, Winnifred, Joyce and Mary K.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Loose Funeral Homes and Crematory in Anderson. Burial will take place in East Maplewood Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be at the funeral home two hours before the service.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Church of Christ at Florence in Florence.
Stacie Hendricks
Stacie Lynn Gulley Hendricks, 55, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2019, at her home.
She was born March 22, 1963, in Carrollton.
She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Raymond Earl Hendricks Jr.; three daughters, Brandie Lynn Mendoza, Heather Rose Singh and Morgan Ashley Pugh; three sons, Brandon Lane McClellan, Lee Micheal Hendricks and Shawn Michael McClellan; one brother, Joseph Eric Hendricks; and 20 grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Thursday at 807 Sycamore St. in Carrollton, with a celebration of life service immediately after.
Gladys Hogg
Gladys Whitaker Hogg, 102, of Frostproof, Florida, formerly of Hanover, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2019, at Lake Placid Nursing Home in Lake Placid, Florida.
She was born Feb. 10, 1916, in Roxanna, Kentucky, to James J. and Ardelia Ingram Whitaker. She was a graduate of Kingdom Come School in Letcher County, Kentucky. She later attended Morehead College and was a graduate of Indiana University, where she received her teaching degree. She lived in Hanover for several years. She taught at Southwestern Elementary and later science at Southwestern Junior High School. She loved nature and being outdoors, was an excellent cook and devoted to her family and truly enjoyed her friendships. She had lived in Frostproof since 1978. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Frostproof.
She is survived by one daughter, Peggi Lynn Breuninger of Clementon, New Jersey; one son, Isaac Steven “Tebo” Hogg of Frostproof; one sister, Renavae “Peg” Adams of Madison; two brothers, Glen “Poss” Whitaker of Madison and Tom Whitaker of Dalton, Georgia; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac Hogg, who died Jan. 24, 1995; one son, Wilgus Wade Hogg; her parents; four sisters, Chelsea Hogg, Evelee “Auntie” Morris, Kate King and Pauline “Pod” Frazier; seven brothers, Herbert Hoover, Venon, Vernon, Ira, Steve, Arlie and Jim Whitaker; and her stepmother, Cannie Ison Whitaker.
There will be a celebration of life service at 2 p.m. Sunday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will follow in Dupont Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Sunday from noon until the service.

Jerry Sauley
Jerome “Jerry” Allen Sauley, 80, of Union, Kentucky, formerly of Madison, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2019, at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood, Kentucky.
He was born Jan. 30, 1939, on North Walnut Street in downtown Madison, to Walter Allen and Nettie Rudisicille Smith Sauley. He was a 1957 graduate of Madison High School, where he played basketball, baseball and ran track. He placed fourth in the state in the Shot Put competition in 1957. He then attended Hanover College for one year, where he played football and ran track until his father’s sudden death. He began to work for Goodman & Jester Department Store as a sales clerk while in high school and also with Merit Shoe Store. He then worked for C & R Parts in delivery for several years. He also worked as a surveyor helper with William Pettit Surveying. He worked at The Williamson Co. and retired after 31 years of service. He was vice president of the division and served on the board of directors. He was the plant manager at the Cincinnati and Indiana plants. He also held a real estate broker license and had his own business, Jerry Sauley Construction from 1989 to 2002. He was a member of North Madison Baptist Church, where he had served as a trustee and was a past member of the Madison Elks Club No. 524. He helped to reactivate the Madison Consolidated High School Booster Club and was a past member of the Jefferson County Board of Realtors. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball, basketball and football. He also enjoyed coaching the “The Madison Small Stars” for basketball. He was an avid sports fan, had played baseball and basketball and ran track in high school, and played football in college. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their sporting events and participating in his son’s many projects. He had served as the chairman for the fund drive for Jefferson County United Way and was bestowed the honor of Kentucky Colonel by Governor Martha Layne Collins.
He is survived by his wife, Joy Ann Hambrick Sauley of Union, whom he married Sept. 9, 1960; two sons, Tim Allen Sauley and Brent Michael Sauley, both of Union; four grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, William “Bill” Sauley, who died Jan. 15, 2018.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. until the service.

Lee Stephen

James Trapp
James Marsh “Jim” Trapp, 86, of Hanover died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019, at his home.
He was born May 23, 1932, in Oldham County, Kentucky, to Wendell L. Sr. and LaVern Margaret Marsh Trapp. His early life was in Henry and Oldham counties and he was a 1951 graduate of Eminence High School. He worked early in life for Joe Clark, helping with the farm, driving a dump truck and hauling horses. On Oct. 26, 1953, he was inducted into the U.S. Army in Louisville during the Korean War era. He rose to the rank of Specialist Three serving in Special Troop Command. He was honorably discharged Oct. 25, 1955, at Fort Benning, Georgia, receiving the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was in the upholstery industry for more than 50 years, working for several years at New Albany Auto Trim, then at Madison Auto Trim and Cover’s Unlimited. He loved old cars, was very mechanical and enjoyed rebuilding cars. He was a faithful member of First Christian Church of Hanover. He was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan and UK basketball fan. He was excited to learn he had a great-grandson on the way.
He is survived by one daughter, Sharon Denise Buxton of Hanover; three sons, Gary Marsh Trapp and William Brent Trapp, both of Madison and Bradley Allen Trapp of Hanover; one brother, Wendell L. Trapp Jr. of Eminence, Kentucky; one sister, Mary Jane Sine of Louisville; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen C. James Trapp, whom he married July 14, 1954, and who died Sept. 29, 1995; and his parents.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre — Hanover Chapel. Burial will follow in Hanover Cemetery on Logan’s Point Drive.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. until the service.
There will be a flag presentation at the graveside Saturday conducted by the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion.

Nancy Ward
Nancy Jo Ward, 77, of Louisville died Feb. 3, 2019, at Baptist Health of Louisville.
She was born Nov. 18, 1941, to Glen Allan and Viola Mae Lynch Ward. She was born and raised in Trimble County. She moved to Louisville in the mid-80s. She worked for various law firms as a paralegal.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Oscar and Donald Ward.
Family has chosen cremation.
