Dorothy Cochran
Dorothy June Cochran, 84, of North Charleston, South Carolina and formerly of Madison, Indiana, died Friday, Aug. 14, 2020, at the Trident Medical Center in Charleston, South Carolina.
She was born April 3, 1936, in Madison, to Peter and Ruby Perkins Mires, and graduated from Madison High School where she was in the Custer Contest and received a Rotary scholarship that allowed her to go to Norton’s School of nursing in Louisville. She was a registered nurse at the Madison State Hospital for 27 years until her retirement. Prior to her death, she was the longest living member of the First Christian Church of Madison.
Survivors include her daughter, Esther Wolfe, of Charleston; grandsons, Justin Wolfe and Eric Wolfe; and a great grandson, Ray Owen Wolfe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, John Anderson, in 1982; her second husband, George Cochran, in 2005; a sister, Mary Waddell; and her brothers, George Mires and Wilbur Mires.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2020, at Lytle Welty Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, on Madison’s hilltop with interment in Lick Branch Cemetery in Lexington, Indiana. Visitation is from 11 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Isabel Del Carmen Levy Bernal, 84, of Madison, Indiana, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2020.
She was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, on May 24, 1936, to Jesús Maria Levy and Maria Encarnación Bernal de Levy. She had resided in Madison since 1990 and worked as a chef for several local restaurants and served as a translator/interpreter for the Madison Police department.
She is survived by two nieces and a nephew.
There will be no services at this time.

Wanda Chriss
Wanda Sue Chriss, 70, of Worthville, Kentucky, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2020, at the Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville.
She was born June 11, 1950, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Walter Chapman and Gladys Marie Roberts Breeden. She was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting, collecting exotic dolls and spending time with family.
Survivors include her husband, John Chriss of Worthville; two daughters, Vickie Bragg of Cleveland and Tracey Tetlak of Worthville; a son, Ferdinand Tetlak of Cleveland; and four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Chester Eugene Chapman, Lloyd Chapman, Russell Chapman, Donald Chapman and Walter Chapman.

Curtis Hackney
Curtis E. Hackney, 85, of Bedford, Kentucky, died Friday, Aug. 14, 2020, at his residence.
He was born June 27, 1935, in Bedford, to Morton “Mote” and Emily Mikesel Hackney.
He worked as a truck driver and later became assistant superintendent for Martin Marietta, managing six sand and gravel quarries. He was a self-employed welder and ran Hackney’s sawmill. He created beautiful wood tables and chain-sawed many bear creations and loved his animals.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Joyce Roberts Hackney, and a daughter, Gale Hackney, of Bedford.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Leonard Hackney, Raymond Hackney, Leroy Hackney, Virgil Hackney, Benny Hackney and Paul Allen Hackney; and two sisters, Nan Sullivan and Judy Kelley.
Graveside services were Tuesday, Aug. 18, at Bedford Cemetery, with interment there.

James Williams
James Robert Williams, 76, of Mitchell, Indiana, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2020, at his home.
He was born Dec. 28, 1943, in Mitchell, to James Edward and Mary Louise Ball Williams and was a 1961 graduate of Mitchell High School. He married Connie Karr on April 21, 1984 and retired from Lehigh Cement Company with 30 years of service. He was a member of the First Christian Church and Masonic Lodge No. 228 F.&A.M.
Survivors include his wife of Mitchell; daughters, April Asbury and Tammy Hollingsworth, both of Sullivan, Indiana and Cathy Hysell of Madison, Indiana; stepchildren, Troy and Christi Hackney and Tricia Smith, all of Madison; a brother, Rob Williams of Mitchell; and seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A private family service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Mitchell. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery. A memorial service conducted by Masonic Lodge No. 228 F.&A.M. will be at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home and visitation is from 1 p.m. until the time of services.

Lucy Jessup
Lucy Cain Jessup, 94, of Madison, Indiana, died on Monday, Aug. 17, 2020, at her home in Madison.
She was born Feb. 26, 1926, in Indianapolis, to Arthur Thomas Cain and Katherine Korbly Cain. She married Norman K. Jessup on Feb. 12, 1946 in Madison and was a longtime resident of Madison who dearly loved the town and the Ohio River. She was a lifelong Catholic and dedicated to the rosary.
Survivors include her daughters, Cynthia Jessup Griffin and Sandra Jessup Barnes; two brothers, Joe Cain and David Cain, both of Nashville, Tennessee; two sisters, Mary Cain Boeglin of Fishers, Indiana and Agnes Cain Svoboda of Olathe, Kansas; and two grandchildren and 36 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 43 years; four brothers Arthur Thomas Cain, Charles Cain, John Cain and Bernard Cain; and a sister, Barbara Cain Detwiler.
A private family memorial Mass will be held at the St. Patrick Catholic Chapel in Madison. A public memorial service will take place in the future as safety allows.

Charles Morrison
Charles A. Morrison, 56, of Hanover, Indiana, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2020, at Riverview Village in Clarksville, Indiana.
He was born June 2, 1964, in Clark County, Indiana, to John H. and Lizzie Hampton Morrison. He was a union carpenter and worked on many local projects in the area including Marble Hill. He loved being outdoors and trapping and hunting and his fondest memories were working on his family farm.
Survivors include a daughter, Sara Cranmer of Memphis, Indiana; a son, Josh Morrison of Hanover; three brothers, Eric Morrison and Roger Griffin, both of Lexington, Indiana and Jimmy Morrison of Scottsburg, Indiana; a sister, Connie Cato of Marco Island, Florida; and a granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Randy Morrison.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2020, at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in Henryville, Indiana.

Thelma Seel
Thelma F. Jewell Seel, 80, of Lexington, Indiana, died Monday, Aug. 17, 2020, at her home.
She was born Oct. 28, 1939, in Jefferson County, Indiana, to Daniel Boone and Alice Bernice Woodfill Jewell. She resided nearly all of her life in Switzerland and Jefferson counties and graduated in 1957 from Vevay High School. She was raised in and a long-time member of the Union Baptist Church at Lamb, Indiana. She married Roy Allen Konkle in 1959 and they had a daughter and was employed for many years at the Joyce Shoe Factory in Madison, Indiana. She later married Larry W. Seel in 1968 and they had a son. She worked for a short period at Ranch Supermarket and as manager of Burger King, both in Madison, before going to work in 1988 for Martin Rea in North Vernon, Indiana, where she retired in 2004. She currently attended the Fire Place Church in Madison and had held membership in the Jefferson County Goodwill Conservation Club and the CB Club — where she went by “Lady Fender Bender” — and enjoyed playing cards, working puzzles and family.
Survivors include a son, Wesley Seel of Lexington, Indiana; a daughter, Kimberly Truman of Hanover, Indiana; a sister, Mary Simmons of Lamb; and two grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two step grandchildren, three step great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Oct. 27, 1974; a brother, William Boone “Bill” Jewell, on Dec. 11, 2019; and a nephew and other relatives.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Interment will follow in the Grandview Memorial Gardens near Madison. Visitation is noon until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Nancy Alline McClure Burress, 80, of Madison, Indiana, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2020, at the Hanover Health & Rehab Center in Hanover, Indiana.
She was born Sept. 27, l939, in Trimble County, Kentucky, to Howard Wilson and Lavern Joyce Ogden McClure. She loved fishing, gardening and dancing and had worked at the former Conn Organ Company in Madison and as a guard at the Marble Hill site. She was a member of the Madison New Testament Church.
Survivors include a son, Ricky Burress of Madison; two sisters, Linda Bolden of Vevay, Indiana and Sherry Hammons of Lexington, Indiana; a brother, Joe McClure of Greensburg, Indiana; and two grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Barbara Lee McClure, Elvy Louise McClure Mathew, Joyce Darlene McClure Hutchinson Harmon Wilcox and Ruth Sharon McClure Stoops; and a brother, Wilson McClure.

Claudus Lee McMee, 88, of Dillsboro, Indiana, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2020, at the Waters of Dillsboro in Dillsboro.
She was born July 13, 1932, in Graham Township, Jefferson County, Indiana, to William Mack McMee and Rosa Lee “Rosie” Hackney McMee. She was raised in Jefferson County and was a graduate of Central High School on Rykers Ridge. She had worked in Civil Service for many years, retiring in 1991, was very close to her mother and brother, Carl, and enjoyed taking long walks and coffee.
She is survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Carl Clifton McMee and William McMee; and her sisters, Georgia Rhea McMee, Drucilla Frances McMee Anderson Craig, Alice Harmon Price, Sally Becher and Evelyn Cummins.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at Springdale Cemetery in downtown Madison, Indiana. Visitation is 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison.

Brenda Robbins
Brenda J. Robbins, 72, of Madison, Indiana, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2020, at her residence in Madison.
She was born Nov. 7, 1947, in Madison, to Grover J. and Doris M. Brinson Scroggins and married Charles “Chuck” Robbins on May 13, 1966. She was a homemaker, and worked at Heck’s, The Main Grill, and opened and operated the Dollar Pleaser Consignment Shop. She enjoyed watching TV — especially NCIS and Street Outlaws — and played and coached softball for many years, including travel all star teams. She loved bowling and played in many leagues and won many trophies.
Survivors include her daughter, Missy Whalen of Hanover, Indiana; a son, Allen Robbins, of Madison; a sister, Daffney Rowlett of Madison; her brothers: Gerald Scroggins and Loren “Skip” Scroggins, both of Madison; and 11 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and her caregiver, Shanna Hewitt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1986; a son, Charles Robbins Jr.; a sister, Beverly Ann Scroggins; and a grandson.

Joyce Ann Baker, 79, of Carrollton, Kentucky, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2020, at the Baptist Health in La Grange, Kentucky.
She was born Sept. 13, 1940, in Carrollton, to Homer G. McBurney and Virginia Plew McBurney. She had worked for the former Teledyne-Wirz Factory in Carrollton as a tube inspector until her retirement. She also enjoyed working on the family farm, homemaking projects, quilting and going camping with her family.
Survivors include two daughters, Nicole Baker Simmons of Ghent, Kentucky and Rhonda McIntyre of Carrollton; two sons, Donnie Westrick of Florence, Kentucky and Shawn Baker of Carrollton; a sister, Connie McBurney Ormes of Townsville, South Carolina; a brother, Jerry McBurney of Sanders, Kentucky; and seven grandchildren and two step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Greg Baker, on Nov. 4, 2006 .

Adam Erwin
Adam Scott Erwin, 38, of Ghent, Kentucky, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2020, in Mobile, Alabama, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born in Madison, Indiana, on July 17, 1982, to Leeroy Erwin and Darlene Mahoney Erwin Carriveau of Ghent. He was a 2002 graduate of Carroll County High School, worked various jobs and most recently as a welder for various contractors at various locations across the US. He enjoyed composing stories from his own personal thoughts, loved to play the guitar and listen to older country music including one of his favorite artists, Johnny Cash. He also studied Karate.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Darlene and Wade Carriveau, of Ghent; two daughters, Kristen Erwin of Ghent and Lilly Erwin of Warsaw, Kentucky; his brother, Chris Erwin of Daphne, Alabama; a sister, Andrea Schadd of Louisville; his maternal grandfather, Norman “Butch” Mack, of Madison; and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leeroy Erwin, on Jan. 13, 1993; his maternal grandmother, Rosa “Rosie” Mack; his paternal grandmother, Mae Lewellyn; and his paternal step grandparents, Bob and Barbara Carriveau.
