The Pro Football Hall of Fame will host a youth summit on Friday, June 8th, at Hanover College that will include not only Hall of Famers in person, including Darrell Green (Cornerback, Washington Redskins, 1983-2002), Anthony Muñoz (Offensive Linemen, Cincinnati Bengals, 1980-1992), Aeneas Williams (Cornerback, Phoenix Cardinals and St. Louis Rams, 1991-2004) and special guest Rod Woodson (Cornerback, Pittsburgh Steelers, San Francisco 49ers, Baltimore Ravens, Oakland Raiders, 1987-2003), but also to tackle head-on the problems and cheer on the accomplishments that kids face and exist with today.
As a bonus, ALL students in attendance will receive a voucher for two free tickets to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, which is only five hours northeast of Madison, Indiana.
The event is being put on by not only the Hall of Fame, but also the Centene Coporation, which serves as kind of the official Youth Wellness Partner to the organization.
Their collaboration allows both groups to get these Youth Summits happening across the nation, so the athletes can hear firsthand from middle and high school youth about the challenges they face.
According to a press release, the groups are partnering with community-based organizations and leaders, health experts and mentors, to lead discussions on topics like bullying, self-esteem and life skills development.
The meetings, called ‘Strong Youth Strong Communities’ are geared towards kids ages 13-18 and, just like other communities throughout the United States, Madison is working hard to address the opioid crisis and its impact on the youth.
Mayor Damon Welch stated that he welcomed the opportunity to bring the SYSC Summit to town, saying, “We are committed to doing all that we can to help our youth overcome challenges they are confronting and develop their full potential.”
Hoosier native, Purdue University legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer Rod Woodson will participate in the SYSC Summit and also plans to return to Madison this summer to coach a summer football camp.
The Summit is free but registration is required. Participants can register to attend at syscmadison.eventbrite.com.
The event, which goes from 8:30am to Noon, also includes a tailgate luncheon and many selfie opportunities.
