Madison Native Named the Women’s Golfer of the Week for the Atlantic Sun Conference

Madison Native Amanda Detmer has been named the Women’s Golfer of the Week for the Atlantic Sun Conference

MACON, Ga. – Jacksonville University's Amanda Detmer has been named the Women's Golfer of the Week for the Atlantic Sun conference, as announced by the league offices on Thursday. This is the first time Detmer has earned the honor.

"It's great to see Amanda get rewarded for all of her hard work," said Head Coach Jennifer Borocz. "She's one of those athletes that you love as a coach. She goes above and beyond in everything she does, puts in the extra time, and is 100 percent committed to being the best student-athlete and the best representative of this university that she can be."

Detmer paced the Dolphins at the 2016 Bearcats Spring Classic with a three-round total of 229 (79+74+76). The freshman from Madison, Ind., finished tied for second in the individual leaderboard. She averaged 4.20 on Par 4 holes and had two birdies.

The women's golf team finished third in the Bearcats Classic, hosted by the University of Cincinnati at the Mission Inn Golf Resort in Howie-in-the-Hills, Fla. The Dolphins totaled 947 (323+308+316) in three rounds, including the lowest second round of the tournament. Host team Cincinnati won the tournament with a total of 929, Akron finished second with 945, and the Dolphins finished just two strokes behind Akron for third. Georgia Southern finished fourth with 951, and Nova Southeastern finished fifth at 952.
