Fire Department in Vevay Goes Bald in Support of Fellow Volunteer

November 21, 2017

Last month, which just happens to have also been National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Jeff-Craig Fire Department went scissors out in support of their fellow fire volunteer.

They had learned that Auxiliary Member Erin Schmitt had been diagnosed with breast cancer and their department immediately sprung into action starting a fundraiser for her selling “Erin Inspired” fire department T-Shirts.

That’s when their membership decided to go one step further.

At the direction of Board President Lewis Fritter, hair stylists Heather Thomas and Halie Gault of H&CO, and Rocky McKenzie of High Spirits Salon, were on site donating free haircuts to fire department members.

According to Fire Chief Christopher See, “before our November business meeting 17 members of Jeff-Craig Fire got their heads shaved with Erin.”

“Our department is one big family, no one goes through anything by themselves.” said fellow member Lewis Fritter. “Erin is a big part of our fire department family and we wanted to let her know how much she means to us.”

Fundraising T-Shirts are on sale for $20 any size at Creative Images, American Legion, both in Vevay, or through any Jeff-Craig Fire Department member.

Visit their Facebook page for more info. Their phone number is (812) 427-3111 and are located at 610 Ferry Street in Vevay, IN 47043
