A large portion of State Road 156 east of Vevay was closed on May 7th and less than one week later, a traffic light system was installed and more than half of the stretch, which goes all the way to Rising Sun is now back open.
From Vevay to Florence, the route is free to use, but after that, there is still work being done.
Detours that had been heavily using Adkinson Hill Road are now freed up after having their own problems with the additional traffic flow, but currently to get from Patriot to Rising Sun, it will be best to avoid the river road and access State Road 56 through East Enterprise.
This detour would be better to use this week as it was just announced that starting at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Dave O’mara Contractors will be resurfacing State Road 250 from North Branch Road to N State Road 156, resulting in an absence of through traffic.
The Adkinson Hill was being accessed primarily by Vevay commuters over to the Indiana Department of Transportation approved Tapps Ridge Road/Markland Pike detour.
They will be starting at 250/North Branch and going until 5 p.m. and it will be a rolling road block, therefore vehicles can get behind them and in front of them but will not be able to pass them.
According to the Switzerland County Sheriff’s Office, “The traffic light is in place on 156 at the recent closure site just east of Hunts Creek, traffic can now use that route.”
Here’s the original story from when we reported on the closure last week:
